Chapter 97 - If You Want It

Nervousness slowly settled into James as he helped Cadence rinse dishes and load them into the dishwasher. Part of him wished there was more clean up to be done, so that he could put off the conversation he meant to have with her. He watched her wipe down the counters with a cloth, wondering how the rest of the evening might go. As Cadence finished, James gently pulled the thin towel from her grasp and started folding it into a neat square before laying it next to the sink. He caught her glance from the cloth to himself, a subtle indication that the towel belonged elsewhere. He smiled in amusement when she clearly decided it wasn't worth mentioning. "So…our conversation earlier today…I'm ready to continue…" James offered awkwardly. "Okay. Give me fifteen minutes?" Cadence answered, looking both curious and confused by his demeanor. "Perfect. Meet me in the study then?" he asked. "Sure" she replied, giving him an indecipherable look before walking away to go upstairs.
