Chapter 26
"Even the Bishop won't move against one of the Arch-Bishop's staff."
"Staff?" Brother John said. "You are barely a step above that slave you lead about and lecture like he cares where he is. If it weren't for him, you'd be tasting the Arch-Bishop's food yourself. I understand he still has a fondness for mushrooms."
The young man turned red, but instead of continuing the argument he led Paul deeper into the warren in the back half of the Cathedral. Paul could hear Brother John's laughter following them. They arrived at a stuffy corner and the young man pushed the door open.
"This is where you will stay unless I have need of you." The young man watched Paul sit on the bed. "I am Father Thom. If you get lost, ask for me."
"You are younger than Brother John," Paul said.
"I am ordained into orders. He is just a lay brother."
