Chapter 12: Breeding Elves
"Well..."
An elderly visage materialized on the main trunk of the Tree of Life.
The tree spirit gazed at Leon and uttered slowly, "Your Majesty, the Great Elf King, I detect the scent of gold coins on you. Oddly, I am currently unable to breed elves on my own. I must rely on gold coins."
Leon realized that this was orchestrated by the system.
"System, how many gold coins are needed to breed an elf?"
[The weakest first-order elves can be bred with just ten gold coins each.]
Simultaneously, the elf template appeared before Leon's eyes.
[Elves: The fundamental populace and cornerstone of the Elven Empire. The greater the number of elves, the stronger the future of the elves.]
[Order: First Order]
[Talents: Gold Ore Gathering (elves possess the capability to collect gold ore), Self-Destruction (angered elves can self-sacrifice to harm enemies)][Requires 10 gold coins each]...
Leon inquired curiously, "System, how do these elves gather gold?"
[It's a quite magical process! These elves harness their abilities to envelop and refine gold ore, ultimately producing complete gold coins.]
Leon was amazed by this revelation.
Truly an astounding method!
"In the future, if I stumble upon a gold mine, I can directly assign these elves to mine. It would be efficient and swift!"
As for the other elf talent, [self-destruction], Leon wasn't concerned.
If circumstances indeed devolve to the point where elves resort to self-detonation in a desperate battle, then as the Elf King, he's likely not far from his own demise.
"The system requires five thousand gold coins to breed five hundred elves!"
[Excellent, host!]
A golden light emerged from Leon's brow and entered the Tree of Life's stem.
With sudden excitement, the tree spirit proclaimed, "Your Majesty, the Great Elf King, I sense the resurgence of my ability to breed elves. I shall commence now!"
The Tree of Life radiated a luminous bloom as the spirit spoke.
In an instant, clusters of exquisite stars manifested on the branches, resembling fruits. These stars soon departed from the tree.
A soft hum filled the air...
In no time, a total of five hundred elves soared around the Tree of Life.
It resembled stars twinkling high in the night sky.
Agatha commented in astonishment, "It's so breathtaking! I've lived for nearly 200 years and have never witnessed so many elves together. They're truly enchanting!"
The three elven army commanders were equally entranced.
Observing the little elves flit through the night sky, they brimmed with exhilaration.
Leon's smile widened.
Although the elves presently didn't contribute significantly to his military strength, their substantial presence within the territory could infuse other elves with hope for the future.
In simple terms, it boosted morale.
"Has my power vanished once more?"
The tree spirit let out a slight sigh and addressed Leon, "Your Majesty, the Elf King, if I am endowed with ample gold coins, I could breed 100,000 elves in one go, allowing the noble Nature elves to resurrect the splendor of ancient times!"
Leon reassured, "Do not fret, tree spirit. Your vision will become a reality."
"I have faith in you, Your Majesty!"
The Tree of Life rustled its lush branches, its aged countenance forming a smile.
…
Leon moved toward the nearby ancient war tree.
He utilized the remaining hundreds of thousands of gold coins, retaining only 1000 gold coins for the moon well, to "create" elf archers and huntresses. Additionally, he commissioned the construction of ten ballistae.
In no time, myriad beams of light descended from the ancient war tree.
Swiftly, they coalesced into exquisite elves, bearing intricate longbows or mounted atop fierce panthers.
"A marvel from the elven goddess!"
Despite witnessing this miraculous spectacle yesterday, Agatha and the three elven army commanders remained profoundly astonished, their mouths agape in wonder.
"Your Majesty, what are those? Ballistae?"
"Yes!"
Leon led Agatha and the group to the ballistae.
Each ballista stretched about five meters, adorned with the signature elven design, boasting exquisite craftsmanship.
Though it might lack the grandeur of a catapult, its offensive might surpassed even that of the catapult.
These ballistae came equipped with ten penetrating arrows; no fortress wall could withstand their force.
The three illustrious elven legion leaders exchanged glances.
The introduction of the ballistae seemed to hint that their Elf King was contemplating an assault on the Goblin Kingdom.
Just then, they watched Leon extend his hand towards a nearby clearing.
In an instant, divine light enveloped the area, casting a halo.
Immediately, the ground began to tremble, fissures forming to unveil a crater roughly ten meters in diameter.
Within the pit, a soft moonbeam radiated.
Agatha and the three elven army commanders exclaimed simultaneously, "Such a potent magical aura! What lies beneath that clearing?"
Leon responded, "It's not a hidden entity, but the manifestation of magic! I've fashioned this moon well through the magic bestowed by the elven goddess."
Agatha inquired, "Your Majesty, what purpose does the moon well serve?"
Leon elucidated, "The moon well gathers the Water of Life! Henceforth, the elves in our territory won't require fruits and honey for sustenance. They shall partake of the Water of Life!"
