Chapter 11: Post-War Harvest
The elven army eradicated the goblin's lair.
A multitude of gold coins were collected in containers and transported outside the goblin nest, box by box.
With excitement, Usmarie handed a few lustrous gems she had found to Leon, saying, "Your Majesty, these goblins are truly wealthy! From just one lair, we have seized hundreds of thousands of gold coins, along with numerous exceptionally valuable gems!"
The gems included about a dozen of various types: rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and the relatively rare amber gems, all of which looked exquisite.
Leon instructed, "Put them away for now, then take them to the treasure house."
In the Holy Land, gems were adored by human aristocratic women, who often spent significant amounts of gold coins to acquire them for enhancing their beauty. Notably, these gems weren't merely for decoration. Each type possessed magical powers and could be embedded into equipment to enhance its capabilities, leading to their high value.
"When the human trade group arrives in our territory next time, we'll sell these gems to them at high prices."
In previous transactions, human trade groups had exploited the Nature elves considerably. Due to the elves needing to purchase fresh fruits and honey from the human traders, they found themselves at a disadvantage, ultimately benefiting the humans.
However, this time, Leon had resolved to reclaim some leverage from the human trade group.
Agatha remarked, "Those human merchants are even greedier than goblins."
Leon smiled, countering, "This time will be different! We won't have to buy fruits and honey from them anymore. If they wish to purchase these gems and the elf-made equipment, they'll need to impress me with gold coins!"
Agatha inquired, "Your Majesty, without fruits and honey, what will we eat?"
Leon assured her, "Don't worry, I've made all the necessary arrangements."
Agatha nodded, placing her trust in Leon's words.
...
Leon waved his right hand, gathering all the confiscated gold coins into the system.
He pondered that upon his return, he would construct the [Moon Well], enabling the elves to directly consume the water of life. This water would not only stave off hunger but also enhance the elves' magical prowess, proving highly effective.
At that point, fruits and honey would become nothing more than snacks for the elves.
And if the human trade group still aimed to control the elves through these provisions?
...
Leon remarked, "Judging by the time, the human trade group should be arriving soon."
Agatha playfully tapped his arm and concurred, "Your Majesty is correct. The Bauhinia Merchant Group from the human world customarily comes to our territory at the end of each month for trading. Currently, we're a week away from the end of the month, so there are still seven days left."
Leon exclaimed, "Well, these seven days should be sufficient for me to dismantle the Goblin Kingdom!"
Following the battlefield cleanup, Leon dispatched the elven army under his command to eliminate the beasts within the forest.
These beasts were native to the Holy Land.
They were ranked from low to high based on their strength. Afterward, they were further categorized into ranks one to nine, including king rank, holy rank, demigod rank, and true god rank.
Tier 1 to Tier 3 creatures were considered low-level monsters.
Tier 4 to Tier 6 belonged to the intermediate-level monsters.
The seventh to ninth ranks were classified as advanced monsters.
Generally, these high-level monsters possessed wisdom comparable to that of human beings. King-tier monsters could even communicate in human language. Legends mentioned that holy-level monsters could temporarily take on human form. Demi-gods and true-level monsters were even more potent.
Unlike other races on the Holy Continent, these monsters contained a magic core within their bodies.
The value of these magic cores ranked second only to precious gems. They could also be embedded into equipment to enhance its power.
Clearing the monsters in the Dark Night Forest at this time was a prudent decision. The collected magic cores could be used personally or sold to human trade groups.
For Leon, if something could earn him gold coins, he was willing to do it.
...
Evening arrived.
Compared to the outside world, the Dark Night Forest grew dark more rapidly.
Even before the sun fully set, the forest would already be enveloped in darkness. Typically, this was when monsters emerged from their nests to hunt for food. However, with the elven legions clearing the area, most surrounding monsters had disappeared. High-level monsters with wisdom had retreated deeper into the forest, avoiding the Elf Legion.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Leon returned to the territory with his elven army.
Thanks to the eradication of the goblin lair, none of the elves had perished, marking a glorious victory.
The other two elven legions had yet to return.
However, Leon wasn't concerned about their safety.
These two legions were equipped with three ninth-tier mountain giants. With them present, even king-tier creatures couldn't easily defeat them.
Before long, the system's voice reached Leon's ears.
[Congratulations to the Elf Legion led by the host for successfully annihilating the goblin lair, evil spider cave, and demon wolf race. You now control an area within a radius of 5,000 meters and have seized a total of 180,000 gold coins!]
[Congratulations to the host for completing novice task two and earning a chance to draw a prize for equipment.]
[Keep up the good work, host!]
…
After the system prompt, over ten minutes elapsed.
Finally, the two elven legions commanded by Eve and Monica returned to the territory.
"Your Majesty, here are the magic cores we gathered from the magic wolves!"
"Your Majesty, we discovered numerous human bones in the evil spider cave. Luckily, we also collected a substantial number of gold coins!"
Both commanders presented boxes filled with magic cores and gold coins.
These two beautiful elven army leaders were brimming with excitement, resembling children eager to show off their accomplishments to Leon.
Impressed, Leon commended them, "You've done well!"
After a brief review, the three elven legions had acquired a total of 180,000 gold coins, over 1,400 magic cores of various levels, several gems, and other exquisite items.
All in all, it was a significant haul.
Leon placed the gold coins into the system and instructed the elves to transport the other items to the treasure house.
In truth, the most substantial gain this time wasn't the gold coins, gems, or the elegant tools, but the more than 1,400 magic cores of various levels. These magic cores were collectively worth hundreds of thousands of gold coins.
After dinner, Leon led Agatha and the three elven army commanders to the forbidden area.
Besides augmenting the elven army's size through the ancient war trees, this time he intended to construct a moon well, liberating the elves from the constraints imposed by the human merchant group.
