WHO IS A MARRIAGE MATERIAL?
Amelia walked into Phyllis' office one afternoon with her bagged lunch because she wanted them to be on a date as they do once in a while. Yes, they also go on dates so that they would get to spend quality time together as friends and that over the years have been beneficial to their personal development and relationship in general. "What's wrong with you, dear? Don't you dare tell me it's nothing because whatever it is, has drawn on your face. Sit on the sofa so that we can relax and talk as we eat." Phyllis told Amelia.
"Madam, leave me alone o. I am tired for doing nothing but think. I have been thinking a lot lately about either settling down or having kids and just take care of them without being fooled by any man again. You know I have found it difficult to find a man that loves me for me and not for my father's wealth and affluence. I am so drained from failed relationships. So today, I decided to have a discussion with you on who a husband material is and how I will know a man is a marriage material." Amelia said in a confused state.
"Foolish girl, how many yards of a husband material do you think you need and what style are you even thinking of sewing and lest I forget, to what occasion are you wearing it? Idiot." Phyllis said and broke into a hysterical laugh. Amelia couldn't believe Phyllis was making fun of the issue that gives her a headache so she told Phyllis to be serious about it and not to joke with it. "You think I'm making a joke out of your issue? I asked you questions you didn't respond to. All I wanted to tell you was that, your dreams will determine the kind of man you want to be with and how you carry yourself is a reflection of how you want a man to treat you. How you also start will determine how it would go. There are two things I want you to know and understand. The first thing is that, you can only keep a man that wants to be kept. If a man is even confused about you, walk away. The second thing also is that no matter how things get, never settle for less. When i talk of less, i don't mean his financial status, family or educational background but I mean a man you don't love or you definitely know would be a thorn in your flesh." Phyllis responded to her.
"Ame, in this life errr, you can't make generalizations of everything because it would make you wrong or foolish but what I can tell you is that, just as you have weaknesses every man also has but it's up to you to decide if you can live with those weaknesses for the rest of your life. You also have to understand that, you should have a value and dreams you would like to achieve. Most of us go into relationships and marriages without knowing or having a value not to talk of our own dreams so we tend to depend on the man and before we realise we have built our lives around him and when he starts to misbehave or leave he leaves with our whole world and that tend to break us.
If you really want to settle, then find a man you wouldn't have to fake your life around and a man you would be willing to make sacrifices for because it takes lots of sacrifices for a relationship or marriage to work but the fact that you have to sacrifice doesn't mean you should sacrifice your self, dreams, and peace of mind. You would have to know that, it doesn't solely depend on you for it to work, ot takes to tango, remember? If you're the only one trying, it means walk away. You don't have to be with a man because your family likes him, if he's not what you want don't be with him and lastly if your family objects to you being with a man, ask them for reasons because they might have tangible reasons for that. Most at times we tend to play stubborn and yet with time they're proven to be right. Take a risk and prepare to make it work. Have all the investments you've made been profitable? Haven't you lost some ? That's how marriage and relationships are?" Phyllis concluded and continued to eat.
Amelia got a call from her office and had to rush back so she thanked Phyllis and left. Phyllis finished eating and then went back to her desk. Just as she settled down, her phone rang and when she picked, the person on the other line told her to check some videos she had sent to her on WhatsApp. She requested to know who it was since it was an unknown number and voice but the person dropped the line. She downloaded the videos to watch and lo, it was a video of Denzel having sex with the lady on different occasions. She initially believed it was her husband until she decided to take a critical look at one of the videos and she noticed that it was an edited video. Whoever did those videos had just attached Denzel's face to the main character in the video just to make people believe that it was Denzel.
She left her phone in her office so that she could use the toilet but when she got back she had missed so many calls and there were tons of messages for her to read and probably respond to. The very moment she decided to check on her missed calls and text messages, Denzel walked in being very disturbed so she put her phone down to talk to him. " My phone is off that's why I haven't been able to call you. I don't even know if I left the charger home or not. What's even bothering me now is the fact that I have had both people I know or haven't ever met before stare at me like I am a ghost. Even everyone I have seen here before I entered your office stared at me for a while and I don't know what it is about. What's going on Phyl?" Denzel out of confusion poured his heart out to his wife. Just as Phyllis was about to respond to him, her phone rang so she had to pick it.
"Hello, this is Peace FM, are we please speaking to Mrs. Mansford?" The voice at the other end said. " Yes, I am. How may I help you?" Phyllis questioned her. "We have seen sex videos of your husband and an unknown woman which definitely isn't you circulating on all media platforms and we as a credible media house decided to verify from you if it was indeed your husband." The lady said. Phyllis burst into a hysterical laughter which made the lady on the other end confused. Denzel knew that laughter and he thought to himself that whoever is on the line has got trouble coming because that's how his wife laughed if she was about to make someone look intellectually stupid.
" Yes I am Mrs. Mansford and Barrister Denzel Mansford is my darling husband. My husband is such a wise man that even if he decides to sleep with anyone else apart from me, it would be with a woman of value and intelligence and not this kind of a woman. My husband has quality taste for everything including women that's why he married me. My darling husband would never stoop so low to sleep with a woman who has the foolish capacity to release her sex videos to the public. Why would my darling husband sleep with a woman who has got nothing to lose and no name nor honour to protect? Let your professional cameraman and other technical experts examine the videos and get your answers from them. The man in the video isn't my husband. Pay attention to the voice and you would know that those videos are edited. How would I be enjoying sex with all the creampie and squirting if my husband moans unromantically like a wounded cow. Please i have to attend to my Sweet husband. " Who could do such a thing and for what purpose? Forget about my reputation, didn't the person know I could lose you, the love of my heart? He or she should have killed me instead of making this video because I don't know how I would live without you. How did you know that i wasn't the one in the video?" Denzel said these to Phyllis after watching some of the video clips and broke into tears so Phyllis hugged him and whispered " I love you" to him. She packed and left her office to the house with Denzel. They had people staring at them but weren't bothered at all. When they got home, their entire families including the Richards were there and the women were in the kitchen cooking dinner. They got access to the house because Melanie and Beryl were home. She was happily assisting her grandmothers in the kitchen and telling them what had happened in school.
They joined their families and they had an extensive discussion on the videos and they were all bothered on who did that and his motives for doing that. Mr. Richards wanted them to make a police report and then get the police to investigate and arrest the culprits but Denzel and Phyllis asked them to let the case die out. They all appreciated Phyllis for how she handled the media and praised her for being a good and supportive wife to her husband. Denzel also thanked her and asked her how she even managed to control her emotions and anger to watch the videos to know he wasn't the one because a lot of women would have fought their husbands before they would realise it wasn't him. " I was angry and hurt at first. I even called him but his phone was off so I went back to watch the videos but this time around I paid attention to certain details and noticed that the video was edited. Honestly, I wouldn't have told the whole world that was my husband in the video even if it was him because I wouldn't only be disgracing him alone but I would be disgracing all of us gathered here especially myself. I would have denied it on air and fought him in the bedroom because my husband is my honour and I have the responsibility of protecting my honour at all cost else I would lose respect if I don't. The only thing that would make me not protect my husband would be a case of abuse and that's just it." Phyllis said with pride and Amelia who was bringing more juice from the fridge shouted " wife material, a million yards". They all burst into laughter and hailed Phyllis.
