HAVING A BALANCED LIFESTYLE
Phyllis had been worried about Beryl for years because she seemed to be buried in her books and nothing else. She's now twelve years old and she wasn't making friends. The only extra curricular activity she's involved in is doing household chores and even with that she sometimes had to be forced. She's so focused on her studies because she wants to be a medical doctor and she thinks the only way possible for her to get there is just studies. Her parents had been worried about her because they know life is more than just studying of books. She has to be exposed to life for her to even make mistakes and Phyllis even wants her to develop skills in crafts because she believes that the way the development of the world was going, it would take a multi skilled and talented person to survive apart from intelligence.
One of Dahlia Foundation's employees who was in charge of purchasing was due for labour so Phyllis decided to go to most of the shops she does her purchases from with her so that she would know where to make purchases when it was necessary. They went to a shop where she purchased beads and materials for bead work. When they got there, Phyllis saw a very beautiful woman whose manner of transactions could tell you that she was a highly educated and intelligent person. She had her daughter carried at her back but you could see that the baby was dressed in a crocheted dress and shoes which had been decorated with colourful and attractive beads. The lady was also carrying a bag that had been beautifully designed from crystals, a type of beads normally made from glass. She and her daughter wore matching necklaces and bangles which were made with beads. She was buying beads and other materials that was related to beads work and fascinators and hats so that got Phyllis curious and she paid attention to what the beautiful woman was doing. Phyllis heard the shop attendant called the lady, Doctor Anastasia and she was amazed.
So she helped the lady to carry her bags to her car because they were heavy and she had her baby strapped at her back. They introduced themselves when they got to her car and they were each amazed with each other's personality and career. Dr. Anastasia also told Phyllis that she was into beadmaking and millinery as a part time job. " I had always wanted to be a crafts woman but my father refused and insisted I become a doctor so out of reverence to my dad, I went to the medical school but I was learning these crafts whenever I got the opportunity even while I was in school. So now I am a surgeon and I also have a fashion school where I train many young people in fashion and design which include sewing, millinery, beadmaking and decoration and events planning. Though I am a proud surgeon, I get my fulfillment from doing fashion and design. Phyllis was impressed with her and her determination so she talked to her about Beryl and requested to send her to Dr. Anastasia's office so that she would have a talk with Beryl because she believed that Dr. Anastasia would have an influence on Beryl than they had.
Phyllis took Beryl to see Dr. Anastasia at the hospital where she worked. They had to wait for sometime because Dr. Anastasia was in surgery. She called them to her office and gave them a warm reception. She introduces herself to Beryl and asked Beryl to also introduce herself to her. She asked Beryl what her future aspirations were and she told her that she wanted to be a paediatrician because she witnessed how one of her twin brothers suffered from typhoid when they were babies and she decided to be a paediatrician since then. Dr. Anastasia asked her who her friends were and she told her she had no friends either than her family.
Sweetheart, in this life, there's more to human development than you think education does. You need to relate with people and allow yourself to socialize so that you'll learn from socialization to build your character. You would build your character from your own experiences and from other's own as well. You have to be involved in extra curricular activities like shopping, sightseeing, going on adventure and most importantly learning craftsmanship. The patterns, knowledge and emotional reactions we experience from these help us to understand life and it helps us in building our relationships, character and dreams. How do you treat a child when you can't relate to his or her pain and that of her parents? How do you go through life without experience? So Beryl my darling, kindly build your life with balance." Dr. Anastasia said and requested to take them to her studio, so Phyllis and Beryl left with her.
Bery out of excitement and amazement shouted "wow" when they got to her studio. She had on display lots of dresses in different designs and fabrics, footwears in different designs and materials which included wax prints, beautiful accessories including purses and bags, necklaces, earrings and bangles or bracelets that were made from wax prints, beads and the crochet threads. Beryl asked who made those and Dr. Anastasia shouted "moi". Beryl couldn't believe her ears and eyes. "This is awesome. But I thought doctors didn't have time for extra curricular activities. How did get time for these?" Beryl asked her in amazement. Dr. Anastasia told her that, she created the time for doing them because that was her passion. " I even have a fashion and design training school and I would take you there anytime you come around."
The doctor told Phyllis that they could come around whenever they wanted to come if they give her a prior notice first. Beryl hugged her in excitement and said " you're one of my heroines. You're so amazing and I would like to be like you when I grow up. Thank you very much." They went on a lunch date and they shared lots of ideas together especially the two grown ups. They became good friends because they noticed they were great women with vision and affluence. The doctor gave Beryl a package as a present and told her to remember that she could be anything she wanted to be if only she puts in effort, determination and focus. So the package which had each of her designs should serve as a reminder to Beryl anytime she came across them.
Beryl was so happy her mother did that for her and she couldn't stop thanking her while they drove home. Phyllis gave her time to think of the extra curricular activities and crafts that she would like to be trained on so that they would both start to work towards them. Beryl in time began to build her skills in the playing drums and she also started with knitting techniques. She also made new friends but what made her parents proud of her was how she balanced her life and activities. She still prioritized her studies and that was a relief to her parents.
Phyllis decided to also introduce balance in her life so she booked a suite in the No 1 Oxford Street in Osu, Accra and bought flight tickets for a trip with her husband to spend quality time together because they hadn't spent time alone ever after their wedding night. She informed her husband about her intention of organizing an honeymoon for them but he wasn't agreeing to it until after days when he realised she was bent on going on that honeymoon and he k ew if he refused to go with her, she would not give them peace of mind in the house. So he applied for a one week leave and invited their mothers over to cater for the children until they get back.
They went to Accra on Wednesday morning and settled in their suites in the No 1 Oxford Street Hotel in Osu. As soon as they settled, she ordered for chicken salad with juice for herself and ordered roast lamb salad with coke for her husband. " Babes, can we make a journey back to where and how we started so that we can appreciate each other and how far we have come? " Phyllis said. So they went through their journey of fourteen and they realized that they had all contributed immensely to the success of their marriage and relationship.
They went into the pool to relax together. They played and teased each other while they swam. When they got to the bank of the pool, Denzel grabbed her and romanced her until she was wet and he fucked her while he stood inside the pool. They spent the rest of the days visiting places for sightseeing and shopping. Phyllis requested they go to the Labadi beach on Sunday afternoon but Denzel didn't want to go so she wore her pair of blue jean shorts and a white sleeves top with a dark sunglasses and slippers. She then took her purse and called for an uber to take her to the Labadi beach. When she stepped out of the suite, a very handsome man approached her and requested to take her to wherever she was going but she politely declined and they got into a heart warming conversation, the very moment Denzel saw them, he dressed up, also took his purse and
went to where she was standing with the guy. He introduced himself as Phyllis' husband and asked to be excused since the uber had come.
Phyllis burst into laughter when they sat in the car because she sensed his jealousy back then. He was quiet throughout their drive to the beach. Phyllis was excited to be at the beach because of it's breeze and the people there. She loved the atmosphere and quickly went to the bar to grab drinks for both of them. They sat down and relaxed while they got into a conversation concerning love and life. Denzel was amazed at how unattractive all those beautiful women he was seeing were to him. He actually refused to go on this honeymoon and even to the beach because he didn't want to lust after any other woman that would provoke him to cheat on his wife like he did in Australia. It was this that convinced him o the depth of love, value and affection he had for his wife. He hugged Phyllis when they stood at the bank of the sea and told her that " I realised today that the depth of my love for you is deeper than I have always believed. I can now boldly say this to you because I have had the chance to prove myself today. None of these beautiful and seductive creatures could attract me today. I realised it's because I value and cherish you and your love. Kindly give me more of you and I would love you forever, even in death." She blushed with joy and pride that finally she was sure of a man's assurance of love for her. They enjoyed their honeymoon for the rest of the days left and went back home. Though they missed their children, they really enjoyed the freedom they were getting in their absence. They agreed to be doing this frequently.
They got home safely and appreciated both their mothers for helping them with their children but both women felt it was a privilege they were given because they didn't just bond with their grandchildren but they had also bonded and built a good relationship which they knew was good for their marriage. Phyllis thanked Denzel for going on the trip with her because she felt like they had just met and starting a new relationship. Her love for him had rekindled and she was grateful for the feeling of butterflies in the belly.
