“Yeah. Sure,” he replied, and wiped a palm over his face to fully wake up. “I’ll get a shower.”
Forty minutes later, my goodbyes to Adam and Brice’s help were over. Lucille told me that the newlyweds had made it safely to Key West, where they planned to spend the next two weeks. After learning this, I found my way back to the cottage and packed my single overnight bag, which was ready for its return trip to the city
Just looked like our night of constant drinking had truly kicked his ass, even after his hot shower. He had rings around his eyes, pallid cheeks, and dry lips. He dressed in front of me, which I tried to ignore, but really couldn’t. Once I turned away from him, I said icily, “I’ll be in the truck waiting for you. Take your time finishing up here.”
“Yeah,” he replied, and continued to dress, slipping a T-shirt over his sculpted torso, hiding what I wanted to be mine.
