Sea prunes aren’t that bad.

The first day in her new life and she was getting drilled on how to clean a fire canon.

A month before.

Bounty hunting wasn't as easy as people made it look. "Never trust a man with a puppy, you turn your back and they break your arm." The healer shacked her head at that comment chuckling.

"It should be healed with in a week." She slapped Zaya's arm causing the fire nation girl to scream. "Oh shut up." She left and Zaya groaned luckily she still had the money and she did what the sage said and bought the damn land. Luckily for her the people who sold her the block thought she was older because of black marks under her eyes and her height gave her an advantage.

Sadly now she was in a hospital, she sat on a wheelchair and headed to a little sun light and then she heard children laughing. "Again!" One child demanded and Zaya looked at the teen with a wild head of hair. Zaya watched the brunette juggle boiled eggs on a ball and then started eating them. "Can you do two at once?" A little asked which he answered simply by doing it.

Zaya chuckled. "Hey can you do it while they're on fire?" She joked but it seemed the juggling non bender actually believed he could and zaya smirked as she created a red fire and lit one egg on fire. Which the non bender threw into air while catching other eggs in one hand, when the fire out when the egg fell and the teenager ate up.

"TADA!" He said with a huge grin, causing the room to cheer and laugh.

Zaya left the hospital wondering who that clown was.

currently

Zaya was doing her exam for the fire canons, which included showing how cleaning the damn things. "The best part about it isn't." One of the instructers nodded.

"Yes, a shining fire canon is good a one, means there is peace and stability." Zaya nodded. "Good, work private! keep this up and you might be corporal by the end of the year!" The weirdly strict and positive commander said leaving her to finish up.

Zaya was the youngest as she joined with 16 while most joined at nineteen or older. She Was eating military food which tasted like someone had poored salt on to everything before sending it out. "Hey Zaya! How's Chozen?"

She shrugged. "He was odd but fine I guess it was fine, but i really wish they would find a better cook." The private first class laughed. "What?" Zaya asked.

"You know cooks change all the time right and the current guy has been chief since he enlisted." The woman told Zaya who groaned. "Hey maybe you can get cooking duty."

She sighed. "I don't want to, because everyone says I over spice." The woman chuckled. "It's not my fault no one can take a little heat," He said taking a spoon full of the sea prunes. "Bulga, no matter how bad the broth is the prunes make up for it." Bulga just cringes at that comment. "What? they're like dried fruit there's nothing wrong it." Bulga shacked her head.

Zaya, Bulga and the other two fire benders on the did their katas and after sun set and walked to their sleeping quarters. Then she heard someone being attacked. She followed the sounds to the steerage find two earth benders beating on a private. "Now do you understand why're we are doing this to you?" Zaya walked toward the two stopped once she saw their ranks and took on a stiff stance with on hand to her forehead.

They were sergeants. "Private Zaya, we were teach private Bumi a little discipline and to stop poisoning the crew!" One kicked him again. Bumi pulled himself up. "You both have mopping duty." Bumi lip his and zaya nodded. After the two sergeants left Bumi chuckled.

"They're from the hundred era war time. Wait didn't you give my family those coupons?" Zaya nodded though she didn't remember much since her last job made it so she got hit at the head a lot.

But she couldn't forget this weird kid, well now a man. "Wait you're the weirdo with messy hair and you were at the hospital." She pointed at him. "Who taught you to juggle?" Bumi laughed.

"I asked my dad after seeing you, though setting the balls on fire wasn't a great idea." Zaya laughed out loud. "So how did you end up here."

Zaya thought how to explain it but decided to give a simple explanation. "I was performer, a bounty hunter, and now a soldier trying to have a diverse life. But how did a free spirit like you end up here?"

"I told my Uncle I didn't want to become a air acolyte. The next thing I know he throws me into a potato sack and forced to enlist. So here I am with a few bruises."

"And making bad food, at least you make a good sea prune stew." Bumi smiled at the compliment and after she left he understood the first part.

"HEY!" Zaya snickered as she walked to the sleeping quarters.
