Imagine Being In Love, Can't Relate

Yu Xuelan raised her brows and instantly looked at the boy to see if he was also shocked and luckily, he was. So that ensured her this wasn't a scene that was normal.

Although there were no words that could come out of her mouth, she ensured that her facial expression remained still as a stone, but she couldn't help but let out a small smile, trying to hold back her laughter of confusion.

Luo Ran sniffed as tears slowly dripped down, crying, "I'm so scared, master. I really don't want anyone to die..."

She continued sobbing as she hugged Master Xiao's arm tightly, burying her face in his shoulder. Long Rei widened his eyes in shock and choked on his own saliva, but immediately returned to his calm expression, attempting to keep up his mature image.

"It's alright A-Ran. I will protect you. Don't worry." Master Xiao comforted and slowly caressed her hand that hugged his arm.

Long Rei choked on his own saliva once again. This time, it took him quite a while to return to his composed image.

"Young cultivator, are you alright?" Yu Xuelan worried as she patted his back.

"Ah? Yes, I'm fine. Thank you." He smiled back to assure the girl, to which she smiled back in relief.

But who could blame the poor boy? Anyone would be traumatized if they saw this peculiar scene.

"I'm so glad to have met you, Master," Luo Ran sobbed.

"A-Ran..."

"Master..."

"A-Ran..."

"Master..."

Yu Xuelan watched the scene in disgust but attempted to not display it through her smile. While Long Rei, on the other hand, slowly averted his gaze from the two lovebirds who had dozed off into their own world.

Luo Ran rubbed her tears with her sleeves and glanced over in Xuelan's direction, only to see her offer an artificial smile to the crying woman.

Luo Ran winced and looked back at the man she was embracing, "I feel a bit unwell. This is a bit all too overwhelming. I really thought this was all going to end."

Master Xiao immediately stood up from his chair and ordered, "Servants! Take Miss Luo back to the bathroom!"

"No, it's alright. I want to go back to my bedchamber," she suggested and glimpsed at Yu Xuelan.

"And I want Lady Lin to come with me... I feel more comfortable when I am with her."

Yu Xuelan, who was once displaying a playful attitude, was now apathetically staring at the whimpering woman.

"Lin Yuhe!" Master Xiao exclaimed, and she moved her distant gaze onto him, as though she was dissecting his every movement and behaviour.

Once again, he flinched upon meeting her detached and clouded eyes that felt so foreign to him.

"Bring Luo Ran back to her bedchamber," the old man demanded, pointing towards Luo Ran's room.

Yu Xuelan sat silently for a while, deep in thought, before instantly switching her unsympathetic expression to something warmer.

"I would gladly take her Ran-dajie to her bedroom," she said.

She reached out to Luo Ran, offering a hand, and they went off.

Before they knew it, the entire residence dyed itself with shades of oranges and yellows, washing it with a warm, gentle glow, yet the residence still produced a sense of lusterless atmosphere.

"Can you please call Lady Lin over to my room?" Luo Ran requested the maids.

"Ran-dajie, you called for me?" Yu Xuelan asked as Luo Ran waved her hand, beckoning the girl to come in.

"Thank you so much for today," she lowered her lashes and swept her brown hair that dangled in front of her face behind her ear as if attempting to show off her jade earrings.

"It was a pleasure," Yu Xuelan said apathetically and immediately left for the door, leading Luo Ran to jolt up and call out to the girl.

The black-clothed girl turned back, staring at the woman blankly, displaying absolutely no interest in conversing with her right now.

Seeing the girl's strange reaction, Luo Ran hesitated for a bit before speaking up, "Don't tell anyone I told you this, but I heard that there is a safe area outside of Xiao Village. It's below the Feather Temple and no demons pass there."

The moment she heard about the Feather Temple, her heart tightened.

"I must thank Ran-dajie for this information, but may I ask, why are you telling me this?"

"I just want the three of us, Master, Lady Lin, and I to escape there. You know how much I care about this family." Luo Ran said while averting Yu Xuelan's clouded eyes like a shy maiden, fluttering her long lashes over her cheekbones.

Yu Xuelan walked closer towards the woman that was drenched in heavy makeup, noticing that with each light step towards Luo Ran, the harder the note trembled.

A grin escaped her reddened lips, supposedly forming a smile. Yet, Luo Ran seemed to have instead received a genuinely chilling, foreboding quality.

She leaned in closer towards Luo Ran, whispering, "You can stop acting now."

Luo Ran jolted back and began twisting her gold ring anxiously. She immediately looked down onto her lap to avoid Yu Xuelan's piercing stare.

"What do you mean? I genuinely want us three to be safe," she said hesitantly and gathered the courage to lock eye contact with the young girl as she gripped her bedsheets anxiously.

She sighed and grabbed ahold of Luo Ran's wrist, lifting it up into the air and pulling her closer in so she couldn't escape. The woman yelped in pain by the firm grip of the girl, realising her nails were digging into her skin.

"That hurts! What are you doing?!" she hissed as she attempted to break free from the girl's grasp.

However, she had no intention of loosening her grip, instead; she tightened it.

"I should ask you that," she replied with a stern glare. "Ran-dajie, can you explain to me..."

"Why do your hands smell exactly like the poison that was in my tea?"

Yu Xuelan will meet a special past acquaintance next chapter! But it is someone she desperately wanted to avoid…
