Ch-9: Changes and Overlord's Indifference

[You have returned to your original world]

"Haha, hey, look at that sorry bastard clinging to his life," a mocking voice taunted as Adam read the text in front of him.

Startled, Adam tried to locate the source of the voice, but sharp pain coursed through his entire body, threatening to overwhelm his consciousness. Despite the agony, he gritted his teeth and managed to retain some semblance of awareness. The awakening of his bloodline had granted him heightened endurance, allowing him to endure more than he ever could before.

With great effort, Adam surveyed his surroundings, his face contorted in a mix of shock and fear. His eyes widened as saucers, and cold sweat trickled down his forehead when he realized the dire situation he found himself in.

"Where the hell am I?" Adam muttered, his gaze drifting upward to the sight of the blue sky instead of the familiar ceiling of his bedroom. Instead of lying on his large, royal bed, he was sprawled on the soil-covered ground, dirt smudging his exposed skin and clothes. But what truly terrified him was the pool of crimson liquid expanding beneath his body.

"Blood?" Adam whispered, his trembling hand smearing some of the crimson liquid and bringing it to his nose for a sniff.

His attention then shifted to his own body, assessing the damage inflicted upon him. The once-immaculate robes he wore now bore deep cuts, revealing raw, wounded flesh that oozed blood.

"Look, this sorry bastard is sniffing his own blood. Perhaps he's checking if this is real or just a twisted illusion," a gruff man's voice resonated through the air, echoing across the vicinity.

"What a shame. If we weren't in such a rush, I'd have loved to get a taste of this exquisite young man. I've heard the Count's sole heir is only eighteen, which means he's still a virgin," a lecherous middle-aged woman's voice added, her words reaching Adam's ears.

"A son of a Count? Wait... Could it be?" Adam's eyes widened in realization as fragments from the book flashed through his mind. He recalled that sometimes, when individuals summoned from other worlds returned to their own reality, the world itself would undergo changes. It seemed that something similar was happening here.

"Damn it! Was there an attempt on my life? Are my family members safe?" Adam anxiously pondered, his gaze shifting towards the source of the voices. His eyes fell upon a group of individuals dressed in tattered bandit attire.

[Ding Dong!]

[Quest: Fight for Survival.]

Adam's eyes widened in surprise as the texts appeared on his retina, reminding him that he was still connected to the tower. However, his expression soon turned grim as he remembered his current dire situation.

"How in the world am I supposed to fight? I can barely move my body," Adam grumbled to himself, clenching his teeth tightly to endure the pain. He attempted to lift himself from the ground but halted when another text flashed before his eyes.

[Injuries have been detected.]

[One-time healing initiation in progress.]

A wave of pleasant warmth enveloped Adam's entire body, and his injuries began to rapidly heal. Not only was his physical body restored, but his original feeble form underwent a transformation into the new and improved physique he had attained within the tower. Within minutes, his appearance underwent a remarkable change, turning him into the epitome of divine beauty, capable of evoking hidden desires of females with just a mere glance.

The bandits, who had been laughing and jeering moments before, fell into stunned silence as they bore witness to this extraordinary metamorphosis. Their mouths agape, they rubbed their eyes in disbelief, questioning whether what they were seeing was merely a hallucination.

"W-W-What? How did his injuries heal so swiftly, and how did his appearance undergo such an incredible transformation?" one of the male bandits stammered, his voice filled with astonishment.

The female bandits, their faces flushed, couldn't tear their eyes away from Adam's chiseled, muscular upper body. Their heavy breaths betrayed their heightened desire as they gazed at him with lusting eyes.

"Hehe, who cares if his injuries are healed? Now that he's all patched up, let's have a taste of him before we kill him," a voluptuous woman with a lecherous smile suggested, her intentions clear.

Adam cringed in disgust at the proposition. "No way, even though you possess sinful bodies, your faces are still hideous," he thought to himself, repulsed by the sight of the ugly women eyeing him so voraciously.

One of the male bandits grew increasingly agitated as he witnessed the woman he had been trying to seduce fixate her gaze on Adam with such obsessive hunger. Without uttering a word, his face darkened, and he lunged forward, thrusting his sword toward Adam's neck

"I don't know what kind of monster you are, but die, you pretty boy," the ugly man smirked as he saw his sword about to strike Adam's neck.

"Hey, what the heck are you doing?" shouted one of the females who had hoped to make Adam her sex slave

Crack

The man's smug expression instantly turned into sheer terror as he watched his sword shatter upon contact with Adam's neck. His face went as pale as a sheet of paper, and the same look of horror spread across the faces of his comrades.

"Oi, what just happened?" one of the bandits asked, his voice trembling with nerves.

"H-How the hell did it crack?" another bandit stammered.

"The sword must be faulty," chimed in yet another bandit, attempting to rationalize the inexplicable occurrence.

"You're right, and look at how his entire body is trembling. He didn't even notice your sword," another bandit pointed out, indicating Adam's shaking form.

The bandits found some relief in witnessing Adam's trembling, momentarily convincing themselves that the shattered sword was a result of its own defect. Fear had clouded their judgment, blinding them to the fact that even a faulty sword would not crack upon contact with human flesh.

On the other hand, Adam was lost in deep contemplation, completely unaware of the events that had unfolded just moments ago.

"D-Do I have to kill them? Is it necessary?" Adam questioned himself, his mind filled with hesitation. He had fought against monsters in the tower, but these were human lives he was faced with. Doubts began to creep into his thoughts as he pondered whether he should escape or not. Running away seemed like a viable option, especially considering how effortlessly he could do so. However, in that moment, a text materialized before his eyes.

[Origin Bloodline is responding to the user's dilemma.]

[An Overlord should never hesitate to eliminate those who harbor malicious intent towards them.]

[A new skill is awakening.]

[Overlord's Indifference has been awakened.]

<Overlord's Indifference>

<Type: Passive Skill>

<Description: A true Overlord should never falter when it comes to shedding the blood of their enemies. This skill enables the host to maintain rationality even in the face of slaughtering millions of lives.>

"Hmm, a new skill?" Adam murmured to himself, curiosity piqued. Suddenly, all doubts and feelings of mercy that had plagued his mind vanished completely. His once-shaking body steadied, his eyes turned cold, and a surge of killing intent erupted within him as he gazed at the bandits charging toward him. The offenders had awoken the dormant ferocity within Adam, and he was now resolved to eradicate them without mercy.

"Shut the fuck up and attack him already!" the man, clearly the leader of the group, barked at his subordinates who were engaged in hushed conversations.

"Can't you see? Someone who can heal their injuries in an instant is no ordinary person. He must be a demon from hell," the boss, still maintaining a degree of rationality, shouted, drawing his conclusion from the religious teachings he had read in the church.

The fearful expressions on their faces returned as their leader's scolding snapped them back to reality. Without hesitation, they all charged towards Adam, their swords aimed directly at his neck.

However, the boss's own movement came to an abrupt halt as he noticed Adam's body cease shaking. Several of the bandits froze in place, petrified, as an overwhelming wave of killing intent emanated from Adam's being.

"Die!" one of the subordinates, oblivious to the frozen state of his comrades, swung his sword with the intent of severing Adam's head. To his astonishment, his blade sliced through empty air as Adam vanished from his position.

The remaining bandits, witnessing this bewildering spectacle, felt their eyes narrow in fear, their gazes reduced to mere slits.

"Damn, where the hell did that demon disappear to? This is way above our pay grade!" the leader of the group shouted, beads of sweat streaming down his face.

"B-Boss," one of his trembling subordinates called out, pointing a shaky finger in the boss's direction.

"W-What?" The boss's heart sank as he observed his subordinates looking at him with faces drained of color.

Suddenly, a sharp pain seared through his chest. Slowly, he lowered his gaze to see a hand piercing through his chest from behind.

"W-What the hell just happened?" was his last thought as he felt someone mercilessly extracting his heart from his body.

Thud.

His lifeless body crumpled to the ground, and Adam regarded it with indifference as he crushed the stolen heart within his palms.

"You made a grave mistake when you targeted me. Tsk, now I have to clean my hands," Adam spoke softly, a look of disgust crossing his otherworldly handsome face as he observed the blood from the crushed heart staining his hands.

He reached down and picked up the sword lying beside the lifeless corpse, gripping it tightly in his hand. With cold eyes, he turned his gaze towards the remaining bandits who stood in a daze.

"Filthy scum, it's now your turn to join him in the afterlife," Adam declared loudly, snapping them back to reality. The bandits trembled under his gaze, their eyes filled with fear.

"D-Demon!" one of them stuttered, stumbling backward and falling on his backside.

"W-Wait, don't kill us! If you spare us, we'll reveal who hired us to kill you, please--" Before he could even finish his plea, Adam disappeared from his position, and the air filled with the sickening sound of heads being severed from their bodies. Headless corpses littered the ground in the aftermath.

Turning to face the remaining female survivors, who had once harbored lustful intentions towards him, Adam's expression remained stern as they quivered in fear before him.

"Please, spare us! If you spare our lives, we'll become your willing slaves, and you can do anything you want with our bodies," the desperate females made one final attempt, thinking that the demon within the human form would be enticed by their voluptuous figures. Some of them even provocatively pulled at their clothing, hoping to entice Adam with a glimpse of their bare flesh.

"Disgusting," Adam's voice turned icy cold as he looked upon them with disdain. "Even though you possess first-class bodies, your faces are repulsive. Just die."

With swift and merciless strikes of his sword, Adam ended their lives, cutting short their pitiful pleas.
