Mother or Father
Mei Joan chuckled. "I can't blame you. She learned to walk when she was six months old and even looked like a year old that time." She added, but something is unusual in her tone.
She felt happy while thinking that Aryen become fond of the child. But deep in her heart, Mei Joan was thunderstruck when she realized a little resemblance with Mrs Lee.
Especially the colour of the eyes, when the little girl's luminous green pupil appeared, it was more like Aryen's. If only she didn't know who was the child's parents, Mei Joan would think Mrs Lee was the little girl's mother.
With their wonderful conversation, Aryen wouldn't let go of the chance to know more about her daughter. "She's so cute.. Her eyes are very pretty.. She must have got it from her mother or father's." Aryen praised, but behind her thoughts. 'What does her father looked like?'
With determination to know more, Aryen finally asked. "What is her name? Whose child is she? Didn't you only have three children? Is she your granddaughter?" her voice sounded interested.
Behind her act, Aryen's gaze were sharp. She didn't want to miss anything on her mother's expressions. But her heart began pumping fast while waiting for Mei Joan to answer.
Knowing that she can't ask her questions directly. Aryen will find a way to know more, especially about how her family got her daughter and know who was the father.
Mei Joan's face suddenly looked pale, but it didn't take too long when she looked back at the little girl and a bitter smile appeared on her lips. "You won't believe if I tell you. Almost the same name with yours." her voice was gentle, yet sounded anguish.
"Her name is Arwen" Mei Joan's voice is soft. "We took it from my first daughter's favorite character from one of her favorite movies." but she paused and seemed hesitant to continue.
Mei Joan subconsciously bit her lower lip. She secretly had taken a deep breath. "She is my nephew's child. He is currently away, so we are taking care of her."
Aryen: "..." Arwen? Nephew? Is she, not my child?
Aryen was thunderstruck. Mei Joan answered differently than what she expected. She furrowed her brows; she knows whether her mother is lying.
Worse, that's what she saw on Mei Joan's face. Aryen can't help but to feel curious. On her thoughts. 'But Arren said my daughter was sent to you.. Was he mistaken? Mom, please don't lie to me.'
Despite her confusion, to think that she was in the lab when her child was sent to her family. Aryen can only speculate about the possibilities; probably the truth, or lie, trying to protect the child? Or is it a mistake? Nothing answered her questions.
While Aryen fell in deep thoughts, she subconsciously looked at the little girl who is silently sitting on Lee Shira's lap. She felt suspicious on her mother's words.
She keeps on asking herself. 'Your nephew? Which one of my cousins? Or do you mean the father of my child? But who is he? Do you need to pretend? Is it to protect her? Is she really my daughter? If she wasn't.. No! She has resemblance with me..'
Lee Shira, who was of course silently listening to their conversation, were secretly glancing at them time to time; making sure nothing will miss his gaze, especially Aryen's expressions.
But Lee Shira's face turned dark and narrowed his eyes when Aryen's brows suddenly wrinkled after hearing who was the child's father.
Lee Shira's gaze becomes sharper while carefully observing every reaction on his wife's face. But no one would ever understand what is running on his mind.
Thinking about what he observes, Arwen who were silently watching Lee Shira while typing on his laptop, raised her head to look at him.
Her eyes and face don't show any emotions, but her hand is pointing at the bottle of milk on the mini table. She blinked multiple times but Lee Shira didn't look at her. The little girl cutely uttered with her baby's voice. "Daddy.."
Lee Shira: "..."
