Bleach - Sleepless nights

Sleep isn't familiar to him. His mind just cannot wander off and have a calm night of blissfully sleeping. He's a problem for his division and mostly the 4th division where he makes daily visits. However, he's known for his analytical eye which is sought after from several divisions in the Gotei 13. Even those with ill-intent.

History

"I myself do not know the full story of the Quincy Yhwach however, what I do know is that he was an incredibly powerful man who held several countries under his firm and powerful grip. In fact, in the recorded history of the soul society, the Quincy attack 600 years ago is the closest we've come to invasion in the history of the soul Society."

"If that's the case then how came it isn't a commonly known fact?" Tessai asked.

I held up two fingers to his question. "There are possibly two reasons that I believe that's the case. Suppression and death."

They had confused faces plastered on their faces so it seemed I had to speak in more detail.

"There are simply not enough people who were alive during the times of the Original Gotei 13. I can only think of 5 people who were alive. Captain Yamamoto. Captain Kyoraku, Captain Ukitake, Captain Unohana and Lieutenant Sasakibe. 5 incredibly wise and old figures who have high ranking roles in the Gotei 13 who don't discuss the events of the past. And the next reason is possibly the interference of the Central 46 and possibly the 5 noble families. As I said this event was one of the only times the Soul Society almost succumbed to an invasion, so they wanted this under wraps. Most information has been purged or 'Lost'."

"Interesting. So to keep the reputation of the Soul Society and the integrity of it's founding members they are purposefully keeping information. If someone saw that the Quincy were almost successful in taking over the Soul Society then it sets a precedent for a possibility. It stops them from setting an example." Kisuke thought out loud.

"Just so I'm clear here, I did not tell you any of this stuff. I don't want the Central 46's prison wardens to come and arrest me for treasonous language."

Once I got the confirmation I continued.

"The impact that war had on the current state of the Soul Society is simply massive. The Gotei 13 had a record number of casualties and the damage done was insurmountable. Military conscription was enforced for the next 63 years while they were building back up. The law that dictates that Shinigami cannot create weapons of a dangerous nature and overthrow the balance was created during this period." I recited to them.

"So much happened due to an event we didn't even know happened. How do you know about it, Sir?" Tessai asked.

"I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. But most of my knowledge came from my captain."

---------------

"I mostly like reading texts from the human world. This book called The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde has caught my attention recently. It explores the true nature of humans. It poses an idea called the duality of man. It's an interesting read."

It had gotten to the period where it was time for a break.

"Yasushi can I ask a question?" Yoruichi asked from beside me.

"I'm only here to answer."

"Have you seen my old man recently? Has he been doing well?"

"Captain Shihoin? I visited the second division to deliver some things quite some time ago and he seemed fine. Banal but the same as usual. Are you worried about something?"

"No, It's just that I think he's working too hard. He rarely comes home and he's overworking himself. I worry about him."

"He is quite old. You should tell him to take a break."

"It's not that simple! I haven't seen him in months and I find it awkward to talk to him."

"Ah, a young girl with father problems. Much more common than you'd think. However, my field of expertise isn't that good on that subject. My captain would be better for something like this."

"Men are useless, Tch." Yoruichi said as she walked away.

I looked at the clock and it was 2:34. Oh, I had to go to the 4th division soon.

"You guys go over your lessons and help the Yoruichi with her issues. I have to leave for something."

"Okay sir."

----------------------

"Well well. Here for your appointment, Yasushi?" A soft voice came.

"Well, apparently I have to be here. No needles this time though."

"Come with me."

I followed her into her office where she locked the door and sat on of the couches. That was the nice thing about Captain Unohana's office. It was nice and spacious and had a calm feeling around it.

"So how have you been? I heard you took up a difficult job recently."

"You were present at the meeting so you should know all about it. The heiress and her friends are an interesting group to teach but I feel like they don't actually need me."

"I disagree. All children need an adult to guide them. Someone to teach them right from wrong."

"I didn't have anyone like that and I ended up fine."

"Did you? Extreme trauma and no sleep for roughly 10 years. That doesn't seem fine." Unohana said.

"Fine enough to function."

"You still barely do that. But enough about that. Have you learnt anything."

"Yes. That servants don't like me apparently. They all give m weird looks whenever I'm alone." I confessed.

"Really? I wouldn't have thought that. Maybe it's your frightening nature." Unohana laughed.

"They probably think I'm taking their jobs. I do most things with them now anyway. They're old enough to be independent what's the need for a bunch of servants following their every move."

"You of all people should know this isn't the Rukongai. Becoming of age in the Rukongai and of age in the Soul Society are completely different." Unohana said while taking a cup of tea into her hand.

"I guess. I told them about Yhwach."

"You did? Well, that's to be expected. History is the most important thing children can learn from." Wise words from the elderly woman.

"It doesn't matter anyway. History always repeats itself. The same mistakes are always made again." I said glumly.

It was true. No matter what you do people always still find a way to mess up and have history loopback.

"You seem particularly glum today. Any reasons why?"

"Maybe it's just one of those days."

One of those days. My mood seemed to go up and down whenever it wanted. Maybe I was just naturally like this.

"Now let's get on with the physical checks."

"I hate this part."

"You still have to go along with it. You know the procedure."

"Yeah, yeah."

I began to take off my Shihakusho and let her do her regular checks of my body. My weight, my height, a blood test and a urine sample.

"You seem healthy physically. Try and get a bit more light and drink some more water. Go to the hot springs. I can get you a discount if you want to, Yasushi Kun"

"I'll consider it."

"Do you want to stay here or are you going to leave now." Captain Unohana asked.

"I think I'll stay. Yeah, I'll stay here for a while longer."

Maybe it was because Captain Unohana was such a comforting figure. Whenever he was here he felt guilty. He took time out of the Captains time just for him but that didn't stop him from being selfish and taking more of her time. She could always make him feel calmer and tranquil.

"Well try and make yourself useful. Help me with some of this paper work."

"Yes, Ma'am"
