Chapter 8

"What a pleasant surprise, daughter."

I immediately gained a familiarity with him, I didn't even need an introduction.

He looked just as a man in his thirties would, except maybe a little more, y'know, godly.

He had the godly features, the jaw, the densely plum colored hair, his voice laced with power.

He's been my idol since I was young, though he embodied death.

When we learned about Greek Mythology in school all the young girls wanted to be Persephone or Hera, all the boys wanted to be Zeus or Poseidon, but I was never as interested with other gods as I was with Hades.

Even though he is the enigma of death and the underworld, I always thought of him as the epitome of strength.

Not any mind or heart can endure putting away souls, keeping them locked away forever. Breaking the families of the bereaved by taking the life away from the mortal body.

It takes a special kind of strength and responsibility to be able to do that without becoming a machine.

"Zeus."

The tension could be cut with a knife, waiting to break at any given second.

Hades was the one to break it.

"Why do I come to meet my daughter, only to find you're already here taunting- actually not taunting- getting your ass kicked by my daughter."

Hades deathly expression morphs into a playful smirk, making both me and Alexander raise our heads a bit more.

Zeus' expression reminds me of a puppy that just got its toy taken away, and I couldn't help but giggle.

That wasn't a good idea...

Though Hades just looked amused to hear me laugh, Zeus had a different plan.

'I guess I've pissed him off.... again *intense mental eyeroll*'

I had unblocked the link when Zeus came, so Alex heard my inner thoughts, and apparently he's not good at hiding his laughs either, because he let out a chuckle before Zeus even had a chance to yell at me.

"Sarina!"

Zeus' sudden scream made me jump, ending up much closer to Alex than I previously anticipated.

'This actually isn't that bad'

*Yeah, I know right, you're getting comfortable with the whole 'chosen' thing*

We weren't able to finish our inner conversation when Zeus cut us off... again.

"You May be his chosen, but do not think for one second that I will accept a daughter of Hades as my daughter in law, and in no way will I allow you to be the queen.

Alexander is a capable king and he has been for many years.

He is yet to be married, making him available to all women.

I do not accept you, and therefore, we will continue on with Alexander being a lone king."

"ENOUGH!"

Hades voice just brought an end to the madness coming out of Zeus' mouth.

I guess he must've seen my tears, and that did not suit well with him.

"Zeus, May I remind you that as of Alexander's coronation, he is equal to you in power, and he has no obligation to listen to your orders or ask your permission.

He may marry and court whomever he chooses.

The so-called rules you set up are not valid to him.

He makes his own choices, of wife and of queen.

So, please, leave your son to make his own decisions, if you force anything unto him it will only make the relationship between the two of you worse."

Zeus looked angry, as if not getting his way for the first time in a thousand years REALLY pissed him off.

Alexander had been holding be in his arms while Hades was lecturing Zeus, and before I could do anything, Alexander threw a bold of lighting towards Zeus and stabbed him through the chest.

That broke my heart, and I immediately jumped away from Alexander.

I couldn't be around somebody that would do that to somebody he loved.

Hades looked unfazed at Alexander's horrendous actions.

"Do not worry young one," Hades turns to me.

"No matter what Zeus wants to happen he has no control over what Alexander wants to do.

He can choose whomever he wants, if that is you then Zeus will have no say in it now that he is dead."

That is what he says before fading into lavender smoke, leaving me shaking and shying away from Alexander, and him staring at my shaking soul with a look in his eyes as if he'd failed a trick and was figuring out how to fix it.

"Looks like my ruse is not going to work this time."
