Black Blood Mage

Stealing mushrooms and drinking urine is the only way many in the underground and Demon-controlled city of Adonia know how to live. In such a world, how could anyone–much less a young boy no older than five-years-old–survive?

King's Aura

Alex, as the man called himself, settled into one of the many vacant houses in the former city of the Beastmen.

He said he had a gift for me, and after digging into a part of the ground, he pulled up a staff made of a material unlike any I had ever seen.

The surface had a translucent surface that changed color as I spun it in my hands. It cycled through every color I had ever seen, and even those I had never seen before.

The staff was made very well, even better than the one I was using in the Beastmen camp, but it was too big for someone of my size.

"Put a drop of your blood on it. It'll help."

As if reading my mind, Alex suggested putting some blood on it, which made the staff shrink in the palm of my hand. Swinging it around again, the weight and size were perfect; as if it was a part of my body.

"Don't come out until we return. It will get messy."

After Donovan gave him a piece of advice, we headed back down to the main city to prepare for the war.

There was still some time left, so after we entered the tent together, Donovan sat me down and started to teach me about King's Aura.

"This power is something I created myself after fighting a strong Demon that used something similar against me. I call it King's Aura, and the only way to not be affected by it is by using your own against it. Don't worry about getting the hang of it today, it took me years to master this technique.

"First, close your eyes and breathe slowly. Feel the air flow through your nose, hold it there, then feel it exit your mouth. At first, you won't be able to feel it, but-"

"There's something else there."

As I was breathing in the stale and dust-filled air, I could feel something else go through my nose and straight into my brain. I couldn't describe what it was, but it was pleasant and warm. As I kept breathing, the feeling grew stronger and stronger until it started to fill my entire body.

"G-Good. Exactly as expected of my boy! Now, try to release that power. At first, you won't be able to do it, but-"

As easily as I breathed in the strange power, I released it in a steady stream, trying to keep the amount I was taking in and pushing out the same.

Soon after, I felt a pressure similar to Donovan's King's Aura come from in front of me.

"Emrys, stop!"

The strained words coming out of Donovan's mouth were enough to bring me back to reality. When I opened my eyes, Donovan was sweating, barely able to keep himself upright, and he flopped down onto his back with wheezing and heavy breaths.

"That's my boy. But from now on, only use it against enemies. You can control who you use it on, right?"

I stood up and went over to the kitchen, focusing the aura on a plate, immediately shattering it and the table underneath.

"Good enough for now I suppose. Don't let any Demons see you use that. Save it for the strong ones."
