Logan, Conal, and Orson stared at the six creatures before them.
Conal recognized these beings from his school lessons. They were Lomalins, a species of flesh-eating thaids that fed on lizards and insects. Known for their ant-like collective behavior, they thrived in colonies, despite looking like ticks.
The Lomalins had a distinct appearance. Their round, black heads lacked eyes and ears, featuring only a nose slit and sharp biting jaws.
Without necks, their heads connected directly to thick bodies.
Their bodies had many small legs underneath and four strong arms of medium length.
The creatures' brown armor-like skin had white spots scattered across it, making them easy to identify against their black heads.
Like ants, they lived in colonies with a queen who laid eggs and led the group. These were workers, the basic type of Lomalin.
