Robert Davies looked at his terrified subordinates, their faces tight with fear. He felt a wave of relief that he hadn't mentioned arresting William Devonshire at the consulate. Otherwise, he was sure half of his staff would have resigned on the spot. The thought made him angry, and he barked at Del Toro, "Issue a ban on William Devonshire from ever entering Black Mountain again. Put him on the blacklist. I don't want to hear or see any news about him in Black Mountain."
"Understood, Chief. I'll make sure it's done right away. We should send him away at first light. Keeping him here could bring more trouble. Chief, we've got 43 dead, mostly mercenaries. If their comrades come for revenge, appearing in the streets, it'll be a disaster. We can't count on being this lucky every time, with no civilians or tourists injured."
Del Toro was eager to see William gone from his jurisdiction. He wished he could send him off immediately. The thought of William sitting calmly, drinking whiskey and chatting after killing 43 people, unnerved him. It was as if William had just squashed some bugs.
This maniac, who preferred close-range headshots and triple-taps, had wiped out his enemies with such precision and ruthlessness. Two of them were killed by headshots from an AWP, and their identities were still unknown due to the severity of their injuries. William had not only aimed to kill but to ensure there were no survivors. Even the leader, whom he had presumably tortured for information, ended up being thrown off the 7th-floor rooftop.
To Del Toro, William was a heartless demon, a pathological killer. He didn't believe for a second that the leader had jumped off the roof on his own. Just thinking about the poor guy made Del Toro break out in a cold sweat, fearing he might end up like his traumatized colleagues who had witnessed the aftermath.
The idea of sending William away grew stronger in Del Toro's mind. He wanted this calamity out of his district immediately. Once William was out of Black Mountain, any further trouble wouldn't be his concern. Ideally, William would eliminate the masterminds behind the attack, so no one would come looking for retribution.
Startled by his own thoughts, Del Toro then rationalized, "It's their fault for crossing paths with William Devonshire, the Grim Reaper. And it's better he wiped out those armed men quickly; who knows what chaos they'd have caused otherwise."
When Chief Davies heard Del Toro's suggestion that there might be a revenge attack, he was alarmed. If Del Toro was right, they could be facing over a hundred mercenaries seeking revenge. Considering that William had dispatched over forty mercenaries with ease, it would take at least a hundred to challenge him. If that many armed men stormed the town, the entire street would be destroyed.
"Damn it, get him out of here! Make William Devonshire leave Black Mountain immediately. Del, go inform the Foreign Affairs department. Tell them we have intelligence that the remaining mercenaries are planning a revenge attack. If we don't want Black Mountain turned into a war zone, he must be gone by dawn. Make sure they understand, Del Toro."
Del Toro saluted and replied, "Yes, sir. I'll inform the Foreign Affairs department right away. I'll tell them we've received intelligence that over a hundred armed mercenaries are coming to Black Mountain to retaliate against William Devonshire. I'll request they expel him immediately. Thank you, sir. I'll go brief them now."
Chief Davies was momentarily taken aback by Del Toro's exaggerated report of a hundred attackers. But he knew that scaring the Foreign Affairs department into action was the best way to get rid of William. "The more frightened they are, the better," Davies thought. "That way, they'll get him out of here fast and stop bothering us."
After Del Toro delivered his alarming report to the Black Mountain Foreign Affairs office, the officials were indeed terrified. With only 600,000 people in the entire country and limited police and military resources, the prospect of over a hundred seasoned mercenaries descending on their town was horrifying. The Foreign Affairs officials quickly decided to send William away at dawn. They had already received benefits from England; there was no point in keeping William Devonshire, this walking disaster, in Black Mountain any longer.
Meanwhile, William, who had been slightly concerned about when he could leave for Switzerland to meet Alexandra Ambrosio, found himself abruptly expelled from Black Mountain. Not only was he ordered to leave that very morning, but he was also permanently banned from returning.
At 9 a.m., William was still asleep when he was awakened by the British consulate staff, informing him of his expulsion from Black Mountain. He was told to leave by noon and was forbidden from ever returning.
"Damn it, they're kicking me out like a criminal. I'm the victim here. Not even a word of thanks or any compensation for my losses. I saved over a hundred people in that hotel last night," William grumbled, annoyed. The young consulate staff member was taken aback by William's brazen demand for gratitude and compensation.
The staff member thought to himself that William had a knack for diplomatic maneuvering, despite his circumstances. "Maybe we should consider recruiting him into our department," he mused. But then he reconsidered, "No, this guy is a jinx. Better not bring trouble upon ourselves."
Without even waiting for breakfast, William was escorted to a private plane headed for Switzerland. He boarded the plane in a foul mood, feeling wronged. He had been planning to buy or build a large house in the Black Mountain forests as a vacation retreat, but now that was out of the question. He had been blacklisted and deemed persona non grata, unable to return without special permission.
The plane, specially arranged for him, took off for Switzerland. Black Mountain officials were eager to have him off their soil, even spending $10,000 to ensure he was out of their territory as quickly as possible.
