After freshening up the next morning, Lisa walked into the kitchen to go make herself a cup of coffee and was surprised to bump into Tom who had dark circles under his eyes like he didn't sleep a wink the previous night.
"Good morning" He greeted her in a low voice before sipping his coffee.
Lisa observed him properly. He looked a mess. In fact, he looked like one of the zombies they had seen in the movie. His hair was messy, and he wore the same loose short and shirt he was wearing last night.
"Good morning Mr Hwang" She greeted back with a straight face before going to fix herself a cup of coffee.
Last night had been hell for him. No matter how much he tried to sleep after he went back inside his room, he could not.
As much as he feared having a repeat of the scary nightmare, he kept hearing strange noises. And what even surprised him was the sudden hoots and screeches of owls outside his window. Like where the hell did they come from?
"Ready to go out?" He asked as he watched her busy herself with the coffee making.
She gave a noncommittal grunt without bothering to look at him.
'Does she ever remembers that I am her boss and she's supposed to be respectful?' He asked himself before hissing.
Although she had only one free day in a week, there was no particular day for her to leave. They usually checked his schedule to know when she could take the day off or not.
Also, a particular day could not be fixed as her off day because it would not be good for others to know when his bodyguard was around or not.
"So.. What are you going to do today?" He asked her when she turned around with her already made coffee in hand.
"To see your boyfriend?" He asked with an unusual tone that surprised him. Why did he sound like he was jealous? It wasn't supposed to be his business right?
But for some reason, he wanted to know. He was curious about who her boyfriend was and was anticipating his meeting with the private investigator Joel was going to set him up with later that day.
Lisa paused when she heard his question. She wondered why he was suddenly asking her about that.
Other normal humans would probably spend the whole day sleeping or having fun, or even going to visit their family or loved ones, but she on the other hand, had just one place to go to and she also considered them as her family.
That place, was where she was going to.
She thought carefully about what answer to give to him and when nothing popped in her head, she decided to go along with his guess.
"Yes. We— have plans" She thought that sounded weird. But well, she couldn't just tell him. "I am going to meet my mafia family"
"Oh..." He bobbed his head up and down like he perfectly understood what she was talking about. It was only normal for her to go out on a date after being stuck with him since the past week right?
"Anything else?" She asked him since she was about to leave the kitchen.
"Nothing. Have fun."
When she turned to leave, he said through gritted teeth. "I hope he chokes on whatever he eats."
Lisa was good at picking sounds from a distance.
She was well trained in all aspects including her vision, grabbing information quickly, and hearing clearly.
She had obviously heard what he said but pretended like she did not.
'What's wrong with him?' She asked herself as stepped out of the kitchen. He was behaving very strange.
She didn't even have a boyfriend but even the imaginary one she was holding unto, he wanted him dead? Did he hate her that much?
Tom sighed before standing up with his empty mug to go wash it.
If there was anything he hated, it was dirt.
As he was busy washing it, his phone that was placed on top of the kitchen's table began to ring.
He ignored it till he was done washing before he went to check who had called.
When he saw the call was from his stepmother, he frowned deeply.
What did this woman want this time?
He never anticipated her calls. Never!
Before he could click on her number to dial it, another call came in from her. With a sigh, he answered the call.
"Tommy. I've been calking your number. I thought you were avoiding my call" She said with an excited voice.
"I was busy. What is it?" He asked rather coldly.
"I know you are always in a haste to end my call so I'll go straight to the point." There was a little pause before her voice came in again.
"There's someone I'd like you to meet."
His frown deepened. Was she trying to fix him up with another lady this time? He had agreed the first two times because of his father and they had all witnessed how both did not work out one bit.
He concluded that he was not meant to settle down with a single lady so he did not want to continue wasting his time. Why couldn't they just get it and let him be?
"I'm not interested in her" He quickly declined it before she could speak further.
As he was about to drop the call, she raised her voice and tried to stop him.
"Wait wait wait.." She didn't need anyone to tell her that the ever impatient Tom was going to hang up on her.
"What is it?" He asked impatiently.
"Don't you want to know who she is?" He could hear the gossip in her voice when she asked.
"I already told you I am not interested" He said through gritted teeth. "And please stop trying to put me together with women."
"It's Amanda! Amanda Park. She's in the country and even asked about you."
When he heard the name, he paused.
"A—manda?" He asked to be sure he wasn't hearing things again.
"Yes. I just spoke with her mother on the phone. She told me Amanda is in the country and asked about you."
'Amanda was back?' He asked himself in surprise.
Everyone... Thanks for still supporting me....
This means a lot to me!
And I am truly grateful. :-)
