Chapter 17: Meeting the Pack

Autumn doesn’t know what to say. She feels awful about assuming their fight was over turf. “Why didn’t you tell me? What happened?” she stammers.

Blake drops his eyes and the sadness in his voice is almost painful. “We don’t have hard evidence they did it, that’s why I haven't acted on the crime. My mom’s upset with me because of it, but I can’t just attack another pack without proof,” Blake explains.

“What makes you think they are responsible?” Autumn asks, reaching across the table to take Blake’s hand. Her heart aches for him. He’s gone through so much only to be judged by her before she knew the truth.

Blake gives her hand a gentle squeeze. “We found his body on our doorstep. He reeked of Liam’s pack, that was our first clue. My father wasn’t sick, he wasn’t even that old in shifter years. When Connie came, she said there was no trauma she could see and that he had to have died from natural causes.”
