48 An end and a beginning

Death God's POV:

The battle has been going on longer than I thought it would. Leonard a human was actually able to hold his own against me... Nay he wasn't just able to hold his own his actually at an advantage.

This human child with his limited life span has mastered numerous techniques within a decade. I have expended my whole power to eliminate him but to no avail. He on the other hand has been trying numerous techniques to kill me. I cannot hit him but he has no knowledge of a way to surpass my immortality. Any grievous wound would heal instantly, so no matter the attack he unleashes even if I can't block or evade it was meaningless.

"So child how long do you wish to continue this battle? It seems like neither of us can finish the other, at this rate this battle might actually continue for eternity. Child I can actually continue fighting you for an eternity and do my job at the same time same as what I'm doing now. You on the other hand can't continue for eternity because of your own mortality. Do you still wish to battle?"

Once I finished speaking the human child actually went silent. It seems like he was actually contemplating on what to do... That's what I thought when I heard a chuckle and felt sudden spike in his mana after which he started laughing louder.

"HAHAHAHA! An eternal battle? Cannot continue? Limited by my own mortality? Who decided that? You? What I hope for, what I desire, is an eternal battle... But this battle that I yearn for will not come from you God of death."

This boy... NO Leonard then raised his right hand above his head and his fingers pointing upwards, his hand looked like an illusion of a sword. I felt something shake my very existence, something within me is screaming telling me to escape. What I saw next I couldn't understand a blade made of light came forth from Leonard's hand and within it I felt something different from mana from Ki, or even a God's divinity it was a different power all together. I knowing that if that sword of light hits me, even my immortality wont be able to save me, still I stood in awe of its splendor. Then it came down on me, it was unavoidable. The moment it touched me I knew it was the end.

Leo's POV:

I slashed the God of Death with one of my strongest moves, and as expected even a God could be killed, not even ashes where left. I then felt a new power surging from within me, and along with it was information directly transmitted to my brain. It explained to me that I am the new God of death, it also explained my duties and how to use my powers.

So without delay using my new power's I created a ton of clones and did my job as the new Death, and while I was at it I started the ritual to resurrect Elizabeth. While I was preparing for the ritual I had a sudden thought if The God of death had forsaken his job for about 30 seconds and summon all his clones back he would've killed me... I guess that shows how important his job was. It seems like even, if I do resurrect Elizabeth my true body wont be able to leave this domain, so in the end I still wont be able to fulfill my promise...

No use thinking about it now better just focus on the task at hand.

Elizabeth's POV:

I was in a dark and cold place, sleeping I couldn't feel anything. I then heard his voice calling to me... Even in death it seems like he followed me... Wait a minute I can actually feel like I can move my limbs and open my eyes. I think somebody is touching my face... That's when I tried to open my eyes and to my surprise I was able to, and the first thing I saw was the idiot Leo. When he saw me open my eyes he smiled his silly smile.

"Welcome back my Queen."

"Leo what have you done?"

"Nothing I just destroyed Death and brought you back to life."

"... I already thought of that, but still hearing it from you actually gives it a sense of reality. Do you understand what has been done Leo. Someone needs to replace Death and you who have acquired his title need to stay and do his job."

"I know."

"Why Leo, didn't you have a dream of finding defeat in battle? Didn't you make lots of promises? What of our journey will you end it here?"

"No I wont end the journey here. Only my original body a.k.a this one needs to stay, so one of my many current clones can go with you. It's a me thats not me."

I shook my head at that carefree smile of his.

"Leo there's no need for you to stay, give me the scythe as well as the title of Death. It was me and my clansmen who originated from Death who should take the role if he falls."

"What are you saying Eli? Are actually telling me to leave you behind after reviving you? I can't do that Eli what of my promise to you?"

"You already fulfilled it Leo, this, the underworld will be my new home."

I smiled at Leo the most gentle smile I can muster, the same smile I showed before I died.

"Eli... Are you sure?"

"I am Leo, don't look at me like that, it's not like this is our final farewell. As long as your alive we can meet each other again, nay even if you die I will meet you at your final moments."

I look at him with resolve.

"Fine then Eli, I grant unto you the title of Death, hear is the scythe."

"Thanks Leo."

"Sure Eli, it was a fun little adventure, thank you for being there Eli."

"No, thank you Leo, for showing up on that day and reaching out your hand. Thank you for fulfilling your promise."

"Well then Eli until we meet again."

Leo then turned his back at me and started walking towards the exit. Step by step, what is this feeling of lose? Why does my heartache? I see... so that's what it was...

"LEO!"

I shouted, Leo then stopped walking, without turning he stood there.

"Leonard Tranor, I love you! The adventures we had, the day you brought me out of the darkness, I will never forget them, even if eternity ceases. Stupid, perverted, battle maniac, kind, wonderful, Leo I will always love you!"

I shouted everything my heart wanted me to say, and Leo simply stood there without looking back. After I finished saying everything Leo continued onward without turning back not even once. I smiled at this gesture, well that's Leo for you that's the Leo I love always looking forward never back.

While I was trying to calm my feelings I heard him reply, his voice echoed in the underworld.

"Elizabeth Rogue, I will come back for you."

When I heard those words, I started to cry uncontrollably, Then I will wait here for you Leo, even until the end of eternity.

Tenri's POV:

I don't know what Leo's doing in the underworld, but whatever it is alerted a bunch of War Gods. Now several of them have showed along with their armies, of lower Gods. They have already surrounded us, Everyone seems to be tensing up well can't really blame them.

"Hey guys."

I turned toward the voice, and there was Leo, When I looked at him, his eyes seem to be a little red, but more importantly he wasn't with Eli.

"Hey what happened to Eli?" I asked and with an unusual smile Leo explained what happened in the underworld, his fight with Death and Eli's decision. It felt like he was hiding some things but I guess everything he said must be the truth. Now it was our turn to explain the current situation. I somehow thought that Leo will feel a little bit pressured, but as usual at the simple mention of unbeatable odds Leo smiled his ferocious smile and declared.

"An army of Gods? What a worthy opponent don't you guys think so? What's with those looks? Let's just go out there and beat that little army senseless. We still have a great adventure ahead, more exciting battles awaits us, more interesting sceneries are there for us, more people to meet. We need to do a lot more for Eli's share as well. So guys let's go."

Without waiting for our response Leo charged forward, then Eva and Adela followed and soon everyone but me was left standing behind. I started feeling excited I know this isn't where our adventure ends, there is more to be had, and as long as I'm with Leo the excitement will never end.

So onward we go towards our Grand Adventure.
