Chapter 2: Daddy for Mommy supper?

First POV

I was still in my egg and getting bored out of my mind when I wasn't exploring my body or sleeping.

I have been here for a few months, I think, time is funky in pure darkness, going unconscious and on autopilot most of the time.

When I was awake and figuring out my new alien body, I was scared and amazed at how natural and normal I felt in it.

I often heard one male and one female voice speaking in Japanese and another strange language to each other and… to me?

They must be my new parents with how comfortable, loved and happy I'm when they touch my egg and I move in return.

It feels a bit wrong as if I'm betraying my human family, I know it's stupid, I know I died. They must have grieved me and continued with their lives but still. 

Anyway, I dearly hope I'm not making mistakes and I'm not some kind of chimaera mad scientist laboratory.

Going back to my new reptilian body that has been constantly growing with how my egg feels smaller and smaller.

I can at least say I'm a sort of hybrid between a snake and something aquatic. 

I'm currently playing with my body and I discovered a different thing each time.

I have a long serpentine tail with a barely movable fin connecting the two sides of it like an eel or a salamander but horizontally, a shorter fin starting below my pelvis and ending on my neck it can do the same thing as my fin tail, a pair of arms with small webbed humanlike hands, a long neck and my head with an elongated mouth like a snout that contains hundreds of little sharp teeth, a snake tongue that feel extremely unsettling to have to be split in two and sharp fangs with one little hole each.

Wonder what I would look like when I hatch *mental yawn* umm sleepy and I fell unconscious in my egg 2 seconds later.

And it was my daily life until my rebirth.

Third POV

While the baby hybrid inside the egg was asleep.

Surya and Mamoru were both incredibly happy about the health of their baby and worried about the life it would have. 

Interspecies marriage was recently legalized in Japan but frowned upon by a majority of its herbivore and carnivore population. 

Those relationships were not understood and are still treated as unnatural by most Japanese animals.

And it's not getting better for hybrids who are the result of this type of marriage, they are avoided, treated as freaks, some as bloodthirsty monsters or the worst abomination that should be put down for the most extreme one, in particular for half-carnivore half-herbivore and from two different species of carnivore, who are hated as well as feared within this society separated in herbivores and carnivore, racism, speciesism and all in between.

Sadly these biases against hybrids are mostly justified even if horribly so, most of them born between two species too different from each other can leads to health issues, shortened lifespan, sterility, malformation problems, stillborns, and are dangerous for the mother's health while in pregnancy and after, contradictory instinct or lack of them leading to mental problems ranging from psychopathy, schizophrenia, sociopathy and more, the fact that society hates and reject most of them doesn't help at all in the case of an already mentally unstable hybrid or worst push them to be this mentally unstable.

All of the above can also be applied to hybrids born from prostitution and r@pes, they are sadly way more common than the ones born from interspecies marriage, most of them end up orphans and are treated worse than disposable trash by the majority of animals in their environment within the lowest social class of society.

That's why the unusual couple was currently hiding from the outside world in the house of one of their friends situated in the middle of the Japanese countryside, one of the only countries on Earth where interspecies marriage was legalized, to protect their young from others until old enough to take care of itself.

"Fufufu our little future snakelet is so cute moving in his egg and reacting to my touch," said Surya lovingly while coiling protectively around it, she looked worst than she was five months ago her scales have lost most of their colour and they were starting to fall off, all of this happened because she couldn't moult anymore.

"How do you know our larvae gender already, Su?" questioned her mate.

""It's a maternal instinct."" the couple said together before laughing out loud.

Then the atmosphere suddenly became tense and heavy.

Surya stopped breathing, her eyes became bloodshot and dilated, and she started crying and hyperventilating, she was going to have another attack.

"Hiiissssss, fuck!" she suddenly hissed in utter pain, 10 minutes of twitching and hissing later she flicked her tongue then said in a pained, exhausted and resigned tone "We need to prepare for the hatching in one month. Hope I will be able to live until then and see our snakelet hatch, hubby." she catches her breath then continues in an ever more depressed tone "We-I need to continue your treatment for me to at least see our child."

The treatment simply consisted of eating axolotl meat known for its medicinal properties on carnivores and herbivores alike and the reason for the near-extinct state of this species with only 19 living individuals officially known, the problem is that the only accessible source for this meat was her husband.

Her husband only nodded in silence. It wasn't a problem for him; salamanders were known for their impressive regeneration bordering on the supernatural and axolotl were one of the best at it.

Losing an arm for example would be just a temporary hindrance but knowing how she felt guilty and disgusted by herself about this, made him feel like the worst scum of the world.

They both knew of her already dying state with her stage 4 cancer and the laying of their egg-containing hybrid baby accelerating and worsening her condition even further, it was their only solution.

After this, they both fell silent before cuddling each other while crying and falling asleep.

Just like this, one month passed, the egg was going to hatch at any moment and the health of the mother of our main character continued to deteriorate without any sign of stopping.
