Beacons Of The Dark Age

An apocalypse that wiped out 82% of humanities population. Myths that seemed to come out of a kid's story book or folklore and the 'Curse of time' that lingers on every human's skin. In a world ravaged by mythical creatures, where one must kill in order to live and see another sunrise. Vic is born into this post apocalyptic world, where he watches his father succumb to the curse of time. By becoming a beacon, he swore to evolve himself to the limit and destroy the 'void of myths' that had caused suffering and misery to the remaining population.

Reasons to learn

"What the?"

Cold water dripping down his face.

he abruptly stood up, only to find Anna standing infront of him with a bowl in hand, her eyes cold and indifferent.

"Let's begin"

"Isn't it still nighttime?" He asked wiping the cold water off of his face

....

Even though a trancender's eyes could adjust to the darkness, judging by how dark it still was, Vic could tell the sun hadn't risen yet.

"Follow me" disregarding his question, she walked towards the middle of the warehouse.

Earger to start his training, he didn't make a fuss over the method of waking him up or the time, instead after wiping the water off his face, he followed her.

"Punch me" standing directly opposite him, she declared, her voice ethereal and calm, as if declaring love to a long time friend.

What, is she nut's standing there motionlessly, Vic didn't know how to act or respond, he knew he was far weaker than her but that didn't mean he couldn't damage her or atleast make her feel pain.

"Want an example?"

Judging by her voice and the look in her eyes, Vic was sure he didn't want to see the example.

...

Taking on an orthodox stance_or atleast a makeshift of one, he readied himself. Aiming at her face, he threw his right fist with all his might.

Directing it at the 5'8 tall woman.

The fist reverberated through the air, aiming to turn the person Infront of it edentulous. Despite that her motionless body showed no signs of moving.

Huh why isn't she moving? At this moment Vic would have stopped his fist, but considering the force he had applied, it was simply impossible and inevitable.

*Whack*

What! When did? Vic couldn't understand it, one second his fist was an inch further from her face and the next he was lying down on the concrete floor.

....

An inch from her face, she had tilted her head avoiding the punch by a hairs length, she then grabbed his hand, using the power he had accumulated she tossed him on the ground, making his back forcefully collide with the floor.

"Again"

Vic stared at her blankly, Was she serious? Who in their right mind would willingly get slammed on concrete floor?

Then again he wanted to learn, he didn't care about the method, he just had to, for his promise, and looking at her face she seemed determined to teach him.

The dedication he had towards his own promise was enough to make him ignore the pain and stand up.

He's an idiot just like you Seeing the continuous determination in his eyes, Anna, even though she didn't show it, deep down she was happy.

Forming the same stance, he swung his right fist towards her face.

*Whack*

.....

The cycle went on for over an hour, until Vic was fed up.

His whole body was aching, and yet he hadn't learnt anything, the only word that came from her the entire time was "Again"

"What's the point of all this? the entire time you haven't corrected me on anything, you haven't tought me anything either, tossing me like a ragdoll for an hour, why? Getting up from the concrete floor, his eyes filled with anger he asked.

"You never asked me to correct you, so I assumed you knew how to do it" Anna answered, her words forcing Vic to curse inwardly.

Inspite that he couldn't really find a valid argument, he knew she was just toying with him, but the answer she gave was enough to make him swallow his complaints.

Taking in a deep breath, he faced her, his eyes still filled with anger and again took on an orthodox fighting stance.

"Teach me how to fight"

"My pressure"

Walking towards him, she helped him adjust to an ideal orthodox stance.

"Why do I even have to know how to fight?, Isn't it easier to just teach me swordsmanship?, It's not like I'm fighting humans or that the myths have the intelligence to use fighting skills"

Vic had been holding on to asking this kind of questions thinking that if he did, she would decide not to teach him anything, even the swordsmanship he was so eager to learn. But after she came back, Vic had a felling that she wasn't gonna leave until he could fend for himself.

"How were you even planning on surviving?, Didn't you have anyone around to even teach you about the foundation of this hell hole?" Staring deep into Vic's eyes, she asked, with a disappointed tone.

Vic didn't answer he just stared at her as if eager for the answers.

"Some of them are " after receiving no answer from him she decided to just explain it "myths are creatures that were formed from peoples wild imagination, meaning there are countless number of them and among them are those that poses intelligence"

He had somehow guessed about the myths possessing intelligence, he just wanted a confirmation, that's why he wasn't shocked by the revelation.

After seeing no reaction from him she decided to skip on to the next topic "After the world fell and the tattoo appeared, so did the rules that governed it"

Vic wasn't surprised when she talked about it like she was there, he knew that most people he met and would meet were most likely 100 and so years.

"During that time groups began to rise. Most of these groups were peaceful groups seeking to only hunt myths for time, some even deciding to grow stronger, strong enough to go through the void, but there was those that didn't fit.

These were the groups that decided hunting myths was harder and tiring resulting in them hunting fellow humans for time. At first they weren't that big of a threat, hunting humans who weren't in any group, but as time went by and the humans who weren't in any group reduced, the groups did the unthinkable.

They banded together forming one, calling themselves 'Believers of Time'
