2 First Steps

A light blue sky appeared in James vision. Singular clouds floating here and there.

"Ugh" A groan escaped James. Slowly moving upright with sharp pains in his eyes and temples. His jeans and the back of his shirt felt damp. He blinked his eyes as evergreen trees came into view.

Rubbing his head he tried to think about what happened. As he remembered the voice, the promise of a new life.

"What did I do?" James stated whilst staring in wonder and the unfamiliar trees around him.

Gathering his thoughts he stood up and studied his location. Large trees sprouted in a rough circle where he was central. The sun just peeked above the horizon and the grass beaded with dew.

Looking down at himself he exclaimed with shock. Large sapphires were set in his wrists l, glinting in the sunlight. Further up his arm blue lines curled and snaked up beneath the sleeves of his t-shirt. James quickly ripped off the t-shirt to search his torso. He found the lines snaked all across and down into the waistband of his jeans.

Pulling the t-shirt back on he recalled the voices words.

"You don't belong in this world."

He pondered on this as he stared at the sapphires in his wrists.

"Who am I then, why didn't I belong" James said aloud.

No answer of course.

'Well from what I can guess I am in another world' he thought.

'I should also get moving because I have no idea where I am or what kind or creatures inhabit this place.'

With that James looked around and set off in a random direction hoping to find somewhere easy to create shelter.

Minutes later James was cursing his luck as he stumbled through untred forest. Fallen branches and dense foliage made for uneven footing and hazardous terrain.

James tumbled into another clearing and felt a shiver down his spine. Slowly looking up he felt death calling as he looked abyssal black eyes of a chitininious being.

Shiny black armour plating layered upon itself with sharpened edges. Six large thorny legs stabbed into the ground like spears and it dawned upon James that this otherworldly creature looked back him with malice in its void like eyes.
