Chapter 11 Thoughts

*No pov*

"Slytherin"

The hat's decision rang in the ears of Cederic and Aurelius and it was decided when his tie and Hogwarts badge turned green like the other Slytherins and showed the house emblem.

Insecure and a little unsteady on his feet, the boy went down from the chair to his new closest classmates, who greeted him with applause.

"I knew you had what makes you a snake in you and green suits you better, than honey yellow anyway." Aurelius compliments his friend as he approaches the insecure boy and shakes his hand.

The confident boy led Cederic to the bench next to him, where he was introduced by Aurelius.

"This is Cedric Diggory, my friend."

Surprised to be friends with a Malfoy, even more are now interested in him and introducing themselves as the sorting continues.

Cederic had been in a kind of stand-by mode since the announcement of the hat, he forgot the names as soon as he heard them and was fighting an inner battle.

'My father is a Hufflepuff, his father, my grandfather was one and whose father was a proud Hufflepuff too. Helpfulness, openness and loyalty, these three virtues have always been a part of our family.

Unlike my ancestors, the hat shouted slytherin. What will mum and dad think if I tell them about it. I'm helpful, open, and loyal, I know that, but there's also something different, new, strange, slumbering inside me.

My ambitions to be more than my father and his father. My dad rarely tells me about his time at Hogwarts and when he does it's often a matter of regret.

Not regretting a prank that went too far, but regretting never trying to do one. In vain to have stopped or not even started.

I want to live my time at Hogwarts to the fullest and then move on to something I enjoy.

Then someday, I can tell my kids how strong i was and not how I regret never having tried to be.

Aurelius gives me the feeling to make this goal achievable and that's one of the reasons I wanted to be friends with him.

I shouldn't lie to myself anymore and accept this side of me, I'm hungry for power, glory and a legacy.'

So Cederic accepted his new self and embraced it by having a chat with his new roommates.

"Weasley, Fred!"

"You know where you belong.

Gryffindor!"

Fred proudly strutted down to the table where his big brother had already been assigned, and on the way he high-fed his brother, who was next.

"Another one of you?

Gryffindor!"

The hat seemed almost taken aback by the amount of Weasleys he was already sending into the House of the Brave.

Ian Corbirs was sent to the ravens, Kenneth Towler became a new meber of the house with the lion on the symbol. Jordan Lee, a bright boy with a sense of humor, follows him into the same house.

Mary Barrows a shy girl with a blue raven a symbole on her robe. Patricia Stimpson a hufflepuff. As the hat sat on Sara Lace's head, he called out.

"Hufflepuff!"

"Davies, Roger!"

"Ravenclaw!"

The next name drew Aurelius's attention from the conversation at the table to the chair and the person being called.

"Avery, Valerie!"

A girl with hazelnut brown hair sits on the chair and, as with Aurelius, her hat didn't have to be completely on when he called.

"Slytherin!"

The girl happily walked up to her table and sat across from Cederic and Aurel with the Pucey siblings.

*Aurelius Pov*

After Cederic was called, I didn't pay much attention to the sorting and spoke quietly to my new classmates, just listening passively to the hat.

"Nice to see you again, Aurelius."

"Adrian, we met at the diagon alley. How are you mate." I ask him, and I'd be lying if I said I saw him as an interesting personality.

"I'm fine and what was your mate's name next to you."

"My name is Cedric Diggory, nice to meet you Adrian." He joins in the conversation and gently shakes hands with the other boy.

"Nice to meet you too, let me introduce my big sister Ava although she seems dismissive she is a nice one."

Cederic and I choose the same respectful greeting and nod with a friendly face and say.

"Ava."

As described by her brother, she says nothing and sits without twitching a muscle.

"Very stingy, with words." Notes cederic truthfully and Adrian took it with humor.

"You've got to get to know her first, we've never seen so many people."

'A lot of people, I've never had contact with people of the same age at home. Of course I had Draco and sometimes when the father had to discuss something with his business partners, their children also came by.

But these were younger than me and didn't share the same interests, like many boys their age they were doting qudditch fans.

There were three times when I really came into contact with many other people at events. Noble event, a gathering of pure-blood families. The occasion was usually a charity event for some charitable cause.

But in truth it's just a meeting for rich powerful people who want to make changes and improve relationships. Doing business together and, for example, to offer the betrothal of two famililies.

It was a dance ball with champagne from France and Victorian magic music. Since I was eight I had to come every Yule to talk to other children and I also had to dance.

When mother first asked me to dance, it was very surprising and confused me. When I asked her why I had to do this, she said it is the duty of pureblood people.

She said the same thing when I started playing the piano and I always wondered why. It was just to tell the other purebloods, look here I have the most talented child.

I tried my best to dance without a partner and was often penalized for wrong execution. At the first ball I realized that it's not that bad. The ball always ended with a good-tasting strange drink.'

"I am sure, she is a lovely lady."

I thank her and see a slight blush spreading across her face. Cederic looks at me and smiles knowingly.

"So Adrian, what do your parents do for a living?" Cederic questions him while the hat calls for another name.

"Both of our parents work in the ministry our mother is active in the wizengamot and our father is a longtime member in the department of International Magical Co-operation."

He proudly responds with a lifted chin, a sign of self-confidence.

"What about you, ced?" Adrian asks him, using a nickname. Cederic raises his eyebrow and answers your question.

"Avery, Valerie!"

As the hat calls out the name, I look over at the chair and think about the name McGonagall just called out.

Avery, one of the sacres twenty-eight, a list of twenty-eight pure blood families. A girl with hazelnut hair and a light tan goes to the chair.

'Looks familiar.'

"Slytherin!"
