2 Chapter 1

Rooooaaaaaaar!!

A load and vibrant roar echoed through the surroundings. It definitely didn't sound human. I could also hear screams coming from the streets.

I hurried to the window to see what was happening. I couldn't make out the details from the fourth floor but what I saw stunned me.

The scene outside could only be described as utter chaos. The terrain looked twisted and out of place, I could see cracks on the asphalt and smoke rising in the distance, cars were crashed into each other and I could see some people running away from… goblins?

Small green creatures were attacking random pedestrians causing mass panic. I could see a few dead bodies lying around already.

I broke from my daze when I heard the sound of the door creaking open. I turned around to see a goblin walking into the room and trust me, they're uglier up close.

It looked like an overgrown child that reached up to my waist with pointy ears, sharp teeth and jarring claws. The colour of its skin was a sickly green and it wore a worn out rag to cover its genitals but left the rest of its body exposed.

I was sure it was a goblin, mostly by its appearance but also by the help of the blue notice on top of its head.

[Goblin Scout]

Lv. 4

The goblin looked about as shocked to see me as I was to see him but while I was occupied by its appearance it revealed a knife and charged at me.

I dodged the attack out of instinct but the blade managed to nick my skin.

-5 HP

I turned around to face the goblin fully alert now. If this goblin thought I was going to be an easy kill, it had another thing coming.

I started to regret putting the knife in the bag, it wasn't doing much use there and I didn't trust the goblin with my back to try get it.

The goblin charged at me again but I was prepared this time.

I evaded the blade more smoothly this time and kicked the goblin's back as hard as I could. It fell forward and dropped the knife. It tried to reach out for it but I quickly jumped on the goblin pushed the knife away.

The goblin gave up on the knife and tried to turn around to attack me but it couldn't move under my weight. I grabbed its neck and squeezed hard. The goblin started wriggling about but couldn't move. I kept choking it until it stopped resisting.

Lv.4 [Goblin Scout] slain.

[Extra experience awarded for slaying a monster four times your level.]

I slowly backed up from the corpse then remembered something. I hurried to the door and locked it before another one of those creatures appeared.

I returned to the room were the goblin died only to see the body as well as the knife releasing very dark smoke. It looked as if it was decomposing but way faster than normal.

Before a minute has fully passed the body and the knife were gone. In their place was a sheathed knife. I picked it up to inspect it and it looked similar to the goblin's dagger.

Probably loot.

I unsheathed it and it looked slightly worn out but considering it had a sheath it's better to carry around than the kitchen knife.

I returned it to its sheath and paced it in my pocket for now.

I released a breath I didn't realise I was holding and put down my bag as I collapsed near the wall for the second time today. After the initial adrenaline rush was over I was quite baffled by my situation.

Is this the apocalypse? A game-like one?

As unbelievable as I found this, it was undeniably true. Proven by the experience I just had and the mayhem occurring behind the window.

People were running around like headless chicken, confusion written all over their faces.

I suppose that's not really odd considering the situation.

I wasn't really dejected by this whole apocalypse thing, it felt like a second chance if anything to me. A second chance at life.

Sure, not a normal life but honestly I don't think I could've lived a normal life after what I've been through.

Besides, I would have gone to jail for murder if it wasn't for this… development.

I guess the best thing to do now is try and grasp my situation.
