1 Prolouge

*Sigh*

I leaned against the wall then slowly slid downwards, before I knew it I was already on the floor. I glanced at the body in front of me and the growing pool of blood that surrounds it.

"What now?" I thought.

I thought this would make me feel better but his death barely helped at all. It felt a lot like loosening a knot, one that has been on my mind for a very very long time.

I got up and carefully stepped over the body as to not taint my clothes. I walked through the house, it felt strange almost nostalgic but I definitely didn't miss this place nor will I in the future. Nevertheless, it was the only place I ever knew as home.

I opened the water tap and tried to remove the crimson stains on my hands.

*Growl*

I huckled lightly, the fact that I could actually think of eating after killing someone just stands to show how less of a human I became.

I went to the kitchen to find something to eat. All I found in the fridge was spoiled milk, some bread and cheese.

How typical of him.

I made myself a cheese sandwich and started munching on it. It wasn't much but compared to what they fed me at the institute, it was absolutely divine.

I wandered through the house recalling my memories here both pleasant and terrifying, mostly terrifying though, when I heard a strange sound.

*Ding*

What the-, before I could finish my thoughts a series of blue screens appeared in front of me.

That's when my shock ended. This felt oddly similar to the novels I read at the institute and if any of them held a grain of truth, then things were going to take a turn for the worst.

It seems I'll have to leave earlier than expected.

I needed to get to a safer place. I ignored the rest of the messages and hurried towards the kitchen and the messages as if understanding my intentions receded to the back of my mind.

I quickly grabbed a kitchen knife, match box, water bottles, some cheese and a bag of toast then stuffed everything in a backpack.

I adjusted the pack on my shoulder then walked around searching for anything I might need.

Am I overdoing this?

I immediately thought otherwise when I felt the earth tremble and almost fell. The vibration continued for a few minutes. I could feel the very building shake with the force. This was definitely not a normal earthquake.

I checked the messages to understand what happened.

The world went quiet, too quiet actually. I couldn't hear anything, neither the sound of the nature or humans. It felt as if every living creature knew something was wrong.

*Ding*

[Welcome to the System.]

Then it all went to hell.
