Chapter 140: Mike Tyson

"I thought you had already forgotten," Arthur said in the office of North Hollywood Galaxy, as he and Amy Pascal auditioned Drew Barrymore.

With blonde hair, red lips, and a slender figure, Drew Barrymore, who had successfully lost weight, indeed exuded boundless charm as a blonde beauty.

Though she was only 16 years old, she conveyed an alluring sense of maturity.

Facing Arthur's inquiry, Drew Barrymore simply shook her head, "Now, I cannot give up any chance. I have auditioned many times, but no one is willing to give me a role. Now that I've lost weight, some tabloids even say I've started using drugs again. Do you trust me?"

Arthur smiled, "Don't worry. Scream 2 needs two important supporting roles besides the female lead, Naomi Watts. The sequel's heroine transfers to a new school and needs to meet new friends. There's a role for you!"

Amy Pascal had concerns about Drew Barrymore's condition, but after listening to Arthur's explanation, she also agreed.

Arthur also smiled, "As long as you stay away from those substances, with your early popularity and agility, a comeback is not hard.

Scream has been out for nearly a month, and the box office has surpassed 50 million - definitely a success. While it might not reach 100 million, I am confident Scream 2 can. Even though you aren't the lead, your popularity in a successful commercial horror film makes for a good comeback!"

"Thank you," Drew Barrymore, who had experienced too many cold shoulders, felt differently now. "Actually, I'm in no position to pick roles now. I will work hard even for the smallest part..."

After Drew Barrymore left, Amy Pascal sighed, "Arthur, has she really changed for the better?"

Arthur nodded, "My instinct is usually right. I met her at the restaurant where she worked during last Christmas, and she was different even then. It's unbelievable that in just over half a year, she's like a whole new person!"

"Alright, as long as Naomi Watts is still in Scream 2, everything else can be worked out. If Drew is fine, her fame will surely boost the sequel's performance," Amy Pascal agreed, provided Drew wouldn't end up in rehab again.

"Amy, don't worry. Drew still has talent," Arthur smiled. "Who knows, she might become one of your big stars in the future. Her 16 years of rich experiences are more exciting than some people's lives at several decades old. Now turning back, the energy she can unleash will be impressive. The future is bright!"

Not to mention that Drew Barrymore would later develop several romantic comedy films as a producer herself; even her adaptation of the Charlie's Angels series would be enough to make her memorable.

"Are you that optimistic about her?" Amy Pascal stared at Arthur, "No wonder you wanted me to meet Drew with you."

After all, this was just a supporting role audition for a horror film. Arthur deliberately wanted Amy Pascal to meet Drew Barrymore.

In the evening, Arthur dined with Madchen Amick, who had returned to Los Angeles after filming Love, Cheat & Steal, at the Four Seasons Hotel restaurant in Beverly Hills.

"Did you meet with Sam Raimi?" Arthur inquired.

Madchen Amick nodded, "I met him the first moment I came back!"

Scream 2 would add two new female roles, one for Drew Barrymore and another for Madchen Amick.

Arthur initially wanted Sandra Bullock to continue collaborating with Naomi Watts. However, with the sequel's story changing locations, Sandra Bullock's reporter character wouldn't appear in Scream 2!

Moreover, Jennifer Aniston and guest star Winona Ryder's characters both died in the movie, necessitating new actors.

Young and beautiful, Madchen Amick would be a natural fit for a horror film.

"Arthur, Scream 2 won't start filming so soon, right?"

"Of course, the script is still being written. Filming will begin early next year." It was just the beginning of September, so starting shooting by March next year seemed right.

"Hmm, I need to head directly to David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me production now and will be there for at least two months."
