To begin, we will look at Alistair's current plot and plots:
So far, the recent chapters delved into Alistair's escapades and the consequences of his actions/heroics.
Because he had acquired a mysterious ability from the labyrinth in chapters 32-57, he was framed by the legal institutions to perform a mission that will make them better harness this ability. Also, the experiment was created to create errors or singularities in a live demonstration to better understand the mechanics of source; hence, taking the entire Aradric district as the experimental grounds.
But even as he did this, he planned to create his own connections and allies to gain more ground in the world.
