Chapter 2 - The Neighbour

"Our neighbor's name was Alita, she was a nurse at the nearby clinic. She was the same as my age, but her IQ was better than mine, and she graduated earlier than me. She took the same way from her home to the workplace. That day, she might have taken the same route and I will wait there."

These were the thoughts that he had while he dashed out of his house. He also thought about that beggar whom he always gave the leftover food.

He solely went to the beggar for saving him from the neighbor. But…he was nowhere to be found.

When he had already lost all hope after not being able to find the beggar, he relieved himself, saying"Looks like the old gramps left earlier today."

Later he went deep into the alley to wait for the neighbor.

He saw a vague figure running towards him from the dark, but he could hear her unstable breathing easily even after being a few 100 meters distance between them.

Undoubtedly it was the neighbor who was running from something.

"Congratulations, Host. You have triggered the hidden quest.

Quest Details – Save the neighbor in danger. Quest Rewards – A Random Beginner's Skill.

Quest Failure – Death of the neighbor."

Ignoring the system's quest alarm, he ran towards the neighbor, but he didn't expect that she was running from that old beggar who had already turned into a…zombie!?

When the neighbor had noticed James, the helplessness and fear inside her heart had started to dissipated after being chased by the old beggar. She had no choice but to ran as fast as she could and reach him out for help.

*Huff* *Huff*

"P-Please save me, mister."

She was already crying and shivering.

The zombie's right eye had already turned bloody red and the right lower sections of his body were decaying while the left side of the body being engulfed by the other side. But, there were tears in his eyes, as if he was suffering enormous pain.

After watching the tears, James's mind had already gone blank. He had no choice but to kill…the old zombie before it could bite anyone else, and shouted, "Run, and don't look back."

She ran away without any conscience. The moment she sprinted towards the alley, Zombie ignored James and pounced towards her, luckily James blocked him by kicking at his head. It was a shock to himself that his kick was strong enough to pin down the zombie 10 meters far.

"How the hell am I so…strong!?" exclaimed with excitement.

The system interrupted and gave an alert, "Finish off the zombie to meet the quest criteria, Host."

Utterly disappointed with being interrupted in not being able to praise his strength, he had no choice but to reach the zombie before it got up again.

The zombie got up really quickly before he could reach him. It had a deadly aura in its eyes, resembling a beast whose prey was snatched away from it.

James had already noticed that despite having an advantage in strength, the opponent was a zombie who could only be killed by being hit on its brain.

The zombie dashed towards him before he could react, but thanks to his experience of past life, he continued to avoid direct contacts with his nails and mouth and wait to find a weapon.

He was in the midst of thinking while he heard the sounds of heels walking towards him at a high pace.

It was none other but the neighbor herself who came with a baseball bat in her hand.

She swung the baseball bat towards it, shouting, "Take this, you rotting bastard."

The zombie was snarling with a crooked smile on its face, watching the neighbor. They both were startled by the fact that the zombie in front of them stopped the baseball bat in no time. James was the most worried about it because this sign was the development of zombie in a matter of those few minutes while fighting with it.

According to his past life, the zombies started developing emotions only after the 3 months from the start of apocalypse.

"H-Holy Shit, why was it able to d-dodge it? " screamingly, said the neighbor.

James kicked it as fast as he could. He snatched the baseball bat and started bashing it into the zombie's head with all his strength, it stopped moving after a few hits.

"Congratulations, Host. You have accomplished the hidden quest. You have gained a total of 10 Experience Points after a killing a zombie and a Random Beginner's Skill for the quest reward."

He ignored the system alert again and grabbed the neighbor's hand to check if she got bit. He was relieved to see her hands uninfected and told her," You should go to your home and don't come out no matter what happens."

She hesitated to say," Can I stay at your house for the night, I am also worried about uncle and aunty." He agreed to her, knowing that she saw someone acting like a beast and getting killed ruthlessly. After this much happening in front of them, everyone would need a company around to let them be at peace.

They went to James's house, but he saw his parents sitting in the hall. Before they wanted to say anything, Alita peeked from behind and the parent's attitude changed quickly. Mother asked her for food and drinks while his father came besides him and started patting his back softly asking," When did it start, huh? "

Annoyed with this question, he ignored him and remembered that the same lady whom they are treating bit them in his past life, but this time he saved both of them. He smiled, and his father's misunderstanding turned into a reality.

"Ahem! I agree with both of your relationship, but you have to take your mother's opinion matters too."

"Oh, really? Thanks dad." For a moment, he didn't even notice what he had said, but he realized it later that both of their conversation was heard by the two ladies, and it was already… too late.
