24. Not enough

The 4 armoured ogres charged the gate as magic and arrows rained down on them.

"Take them out, don't let them reach the gate" Chris yelled. Sam directed Sevrus to focus on the front 2 ogres as he tried to raise more skeletons to fight outside the walls. Several Skeletons were raised by Sam and charged at the ogres with the battering ram. The ogres shrugged of the magic and arrows as they ran through the skeletons, shattering them with their reckless charge.

"We need to bring those ogres down" Chris yelled out. Sam called out to raise the gate before the ogres got to it as he jumped down on top of Dagon standing below.

"I'm not a stepping stone" Dagon grumbled at Sam's use of his shell. Bane shadowed Sam as they ran out the gate and charged the ogres. Sam swung his sword swirling with Dark Mana at the first armoured ogres cutting deep into its side. The ogre dropped the battering ram into the dirt causing the other 3 ogres to be thrown to the ground. Sam stabs at the wounded ogres neck before it can recover itself.

Bane chopped down on another ogre crushing it's armour having to hit it multiple time to end its life. Sam raised the ogre bodies as skeletons and retreated as cannibals charge the duo. Retreating back to the gate Chris dropped the gate as soon as Sam cleared the way.

"Your a lunatic you know that" Chris yelled down to Sam.

"Love you too" Sam sarcastically yelled back as he made his way back to the top of the walls. Joey standing on top of the wall casted fire and ice into the cannibals grouping up at the bottom of the wall.

"Joey calm down and save your magic" Sam walking back to his spot on the wall said to Joey. Joey nodded as he cast 2 fireballs into a ogre and stumbled as Chris put a hand on his back.

"Take a break and check on your sister" Chris pushed him to the stairs as he walked to Sam and punched him in the gut.

"Do that again and I will lock you out of the gate" Chris threatened Sam.

"Sorry I had to do something or we were going to lose the gate" Sam rubbed his stomach talking to Chris.

"At least the battering ram is out of commission for now" Chris pointed to a burning log embedded in the ground 30 feet from the gate.

"Close one righ... " Sam was cut off mid sentence as another roar sounded and all the random ogres and cannibals trying to attack the walls retreated.

"This can't be good" a survivor said nearby. Sam started to raise skeletons quickly at the horrible feeling he was getting at the retreating monsters.

"What did I miss" A voice sounded behind Chris and Sam.

"Jenna" Chris turned around and hugged Jenna as Sam coughed. The two turned red as Sam continued to raise skeletons. The monster army had been gone for 20 minutes while sam had raised almost 60 skeletons and marched them into the camp. Sweating from using his magic to much Sam sat down as a eerie silence descended upon the camp.

"Did they really leave" Chris asked to no one particularly.

"Hush don't jinx it" Jenna admonished him. Guttural barks and grunts could be heard through the dark as another set of drums played. This set didn't cause a debuff but none the less the sound frayed the defenders nerves.

"You just had to jinx it" Sam said to Chris.

"READY FOR BATTLE" Chris yelled giving Sam the middle finger. Marching could be heard as silhouettes popped out of the darkness. Hundreds of cannibals roamed in front of squares of ogres in formation. In the middle of it all was the massively armoured ogre holding his large hammer towering above 10 scrap armoured ogres.

"I don't think we prepared enough for this" AJ said as far took root in the camp.

"Stop talking if your going to say things like that" Chris retorted angrily.

"There is something special about that ogre.That must be the power of a king tier monster" Sam whispered to himself.

"Mages, Archers prepare to fire" Joey yelled as most of the ranged survivors moved to defensive positions on top of the gate side wall. As if answering Joey's yell all the cannibals surged forward.

"FIRE" Joey yelled as arrows and magic lite up the night.

"We are going to run out of arrows if this keeps up" Jenna told Sam worried. Cannibals charged head long into the rain of magic and arrows being cut down as quickly as they move forward.

Larger cannibals tanked arrows and magic as they leaped at the walls.

"PREPARE FOR COMBAT" Chris yelled as melee survivors gripped there weapons tighter. Sam activated Dark Mana as the first gore encrusted claw popped up over the wall. A spear covered in white light pierced through its head as soon as it appeared as Truth led her shieldmaidens to stab at the climbing cannibals that had peeked over the top of the wall. The cannibals used the dead as stepping stones to jump and climb the brick and mortar wall.

Sam slashed at a cannibal that had pulled itself up by him knocking it back off the wall. Dagon roared out as cannibals started to lift up the gate and crawl through.

"They are crawling under the gate bonded one" Dagon communicated to Sam.

"Sevrus led some skeletons to help protect the gate" Sam commanded Sevrus. As more cannibals were killed more and more were able to get onto the walls easier. Sam fought harder trying to level up as he knew what was coming would be a hard fought battle. Sliceing the head off a large fat cannibal the sound Sam was hoping for sounded.

[Cold steel sword acquired]

Sam equipped the new sword quickly as another large cannibal charge onto the wall. The new sword cut through the cannibal like it was paper as Sam used his new spell raise Zombie. A sickly green mist surrounded 2 cannibal bodies as it seeped into all orifices. The bodies twitched as the pulled themselves up and lurched towards other cannibals on their own.
