Empress Janice sat holding a book, her lips curled into a smile that was both pure and cheerful. To those meeting her for the first time, no one would associate her with the role of an empress; she seemed more like a harmless girl.

Yet, those familiar with the history of Red Jade nation would never underestimate this empress. Those who ascend to the throne are invariably exceptional figures, and Empress Janice was no exception.

Janice was not the original rightful heir to the throne of Red Jade nation; she was a usurper! She was the child of the previous King of Red Jade and a maid. Had the old King of Red Jade not recognized his own bloodline in her, Empress Janice would have been executed long ago.

Janice was spared death, but she could not escape her grievous fate, her very existence a beginning of sin. Her mother was hanged on an old tree within the deep palace of Red Jade, accused of seducing the king, by the king's concubines and queen.
