Preface

World that we live in has a sub-world, yes a sub-world with different variety of creatures that look very much like humans during the day, tired ox during the evening, an angry wolf by night and a hurt puppy in the morning. These creatures are very active after the sunset. They are subject to become more vicious if they start venturing out during the day time. Their size may vary as per their food intake. These creatures are not loved by the world and are usually left alone. No one visits their habitat often. They become very aggressive at night and are often captured in confinements or are found dead somewhere. Their other characteristics can vary from being aggressive, selfish, greedy, shattered, depressed, harmful, shameful, scared, petrified and the list goes on. Well that's the definition that I have received from the larger world. Many of these creatures are a part and parcel of most of the families today and are tagged as Addicts. I am one of those surviving creatures of the sub-world living among you. I am authoring this book to provide a window into the lesser known world.

You would have read a lot of books from professional and educated writers, well this book is written by a well-educated addict. So I request you to please accept my writing style, if you may and readthrough the journey of an addict, who is now sober. The book has various true stories of an addict's life, other addicts, their families, their history and even their deaths. This is not just any book on addiction that will bore you and make you want to have a drink, but in fact this book will throw a light on how many names have been lost to addiction. The names that would have made a lasted impact on the world but were subsequently lost in the sub-world. People often find misery of other human beings amusing, but also if those mistakes are thought about in a constructive way, it helps in making sure that same misery is not repeated with them. While reading this book, try to relate yourself as if the things mentioned were happening to you and the mind-set that would have developed in those scenarios.I believe we should now start our journey of looking into the lives of a few creatures whom I came across in my personal confinement of a closed-rehab in India and how it impacted my belief system. No matter whether you are an addict, a non-addict or a recovering addict, just sway through the book and realise how fortunate you are to be having a life that you have. I wish many lives will also be blessed by the time we reach the last page of the book.

**All events are true but the names have been changed to maintain the anonymity of the living, dead and recovering addicts.
