“Water! Water!” I exclaimed as I reached for the bottle I’d left on the dressing table. My mouth was drier than I could ever remember. I must have sweat out a good four gallons.

I turned to see Borden standing there, his arms crossed, just nodding.

“I’m glad Elizabeth gave me your name,” he declared, proudly.

“So am I, Borden. You know, I think I’m going to be okay with this.” I downed the rest of the water. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much.

“Are you going to be okay with the reception upstairs?”

“Shit, I forgot.” I sighed.

“Well, let’s go. I’m sure everyone’s waiting for you.”

“Just one thing. I’ve gotta put on some more deodorant. I’m surprised the violins didn’t faint, I was sweating so much.”

“I’m sure no one noticed.”

“Right,” I laughed, as I went into the bathroom. 40

“Yes, Mom, I’ll be performing in Augusta next month. It’s less than an hour away. You’ve got to come see me.”

“I’d really love that, Sweetheart, but I haven’t driven that far in ages!”
