Another day and the same thing happened again. Though not a pink paper plane made of scented paper, it was a white crane made of Japanese paper. The sticky note she stuck to the plane disappeared along with it and was replaced.
"I wonder what's written here now...?" She mumbled to herself as she curiously unfolded the paper crane. When she finally unfolded it without harming the paper, she saw words printed onto the paper. "I wonder how they printed it... As far as I know, Japanese paper is quite thin."
[It was hard to print this onto this thin piece of paper. I had to write it instead. Now, you see my penmanship XD. Anyway. to answer your question, I'm Patton. Of course, that isn't my real name but it would ruin the surprise if I revealed myself without you playing with me first.]
She rolled her eyes then she wrote her response.
[I don't have time for this... I am busy with my work and if you want to talk to me, spam my mail or just tell me who you are. I might even say yes to a date.]
She left the message there to go make a visit to the 30th floor, the private room of the CEO, Mr. Kingsley. His secretary opened the door and she was permitted to enter.
"Sir, I wish to know why you looked for me yesterday." She asked the man standing by the huge windows.
"Oh, it was because I found it peculiar to see you late." He replied nonchalantly, "I guess I understood why you were almost late."
"What do you mean, sir?" She raised a brow.
"You looked stunning yesterday, until you stormed out because I did not approve of your budget proposal that I guess your department worked hard for."
"For the record, sir, I did not storm out, the meeting was over and I decided that it was better for me to exercise my legs before I sit for the rest of the day." She clarified. Mr. Kingsley couldn't take her seriously for while she talked, her face turned red, like a tomato.
"Ah..." He retorted sarcastically, "I see..."
"If there's nothing else but that, then I must go back to work." She sighed before turning her back on him.
"Oh, before you go, I saw a crane on your desk earlier, did you make it?" Mr. Kingsley asked.
"It was given to me by a mysterious person honestly." She honestly replied, "By means of mysterious, I don't know who he is but he goes by the name Patton."
"Is that so?" He turned to her, "Word of advice, Miss, do not entertain that mysterious man."
"He piques my interest but I'll keep that in mind." She smiled before opening the door, "Thanks."
Once she got out of the door, Mr. Kingsley returned to his desk and he took out his journal where he wrote everything.
[What a curious woman.]
When she got back to her office, she looked at the penmanship again and it looked clean. She didn't know if the writer was that meticulous or it took a long time to write such a clean letter.
"I wish my writing was as clean as this." She sighed to herself. "I mean my handwriting is at least legible but it is only this clean and beautiful if I was only writing numbers. Why did I ever leave teaching?"
While she was lost in thought, she heard a knock disrupt the silence. When she looked at the glass door, it was one of her subordinates. She gave a signal for him to enter and he immediately noticed the uneasiness in her superior's eyes. "Miss, is everything alright?"
"Yeah... Well, do you happen to know if people go into my office just to put these?" She asked.
"None that I know of." He told her. "Anyway, someone wants to give you this."
"An envelope?" She asked while she took it from his hands. "From who?"
"I forgot his name but he works at Princeton General Hospital?" He shrugged.
"Interesting." She mumbled. "You may now go back to work."
Her subordinate left her as she slowly opened the letter. When she saw its contents, there was a silver ring inside and an invitation to a hotel. The invitation was extravagant, coloured red with accents of gold and silver. It said there to admit entry, one should wear either a silver or a gold ring from the hotel. 'I guess I'm a plus one?' She thought.
She wore the silver ring that complimented her work clothes and she couldn't wait. Though still not knowing who sent the invitation, she was looking forward to it. 'This evening... Huh...?' She thought once more.
Once it was past five, she dismissed all her subordinates before leaving the building. All the lights were off and she felt exhausted. She didn't know that everything would fall on her plate.
Nonetheless, once she got out of the building, a van waited for her.
"Miss, are you-?" The driver asked but was cut off by her answer. "Yes, yes... Here's my ID if you need proof."
"Sir Princeton has your dresses packed for you." The driver told her. She entered the van to see the back filled with hangers of dresses and gowns, accessories, bags and shoes.
"Not all of these are mine..." She replied to the driver.
"Oh, figured you would say that. Sir Princeton went shopping earlier." He shrugged without looking away from the road.
"Can I keep this all when I go back then?" Her eyes sparkled as she asked.
"Depends on Mr. Princeton if he allows it." The driver told her.
Happily, she tried on every gown and dress along with accessories and everything else until one dress caught her eye. It was a black cocktail dress with a long slit on the left. The dress had a plunging neckline at the front and the stings that hold the dress up is tied intricately at the back. As soon as her eyes saw the dress, she knew how she wanted to look like.
She wore black undergarments with the black dress over it. She also took the white fur shawl and draped it over her arms. She saw a pearl and diamond jewelry set and she immediately knew she had to wear it. below the jewelry set was a hair accessory with the same materials as the jewelry. She tied her hair in a rose bun then put the accessory around it which highlighted her rose-shaped hair. After wearing make-up, she just remembered to wear shoes. She wore black 4 to 5-inch-tall stilettos with ankle straps. She took with her a black handbag wherein she can fit her phone, money and some cards. Along with her, she held onto the envelope with the invitation while she examined the ring given to her.
Have you got a clue who the writer is?
