Lance paced back and forth in the engine bay, ignoring the nightmarish puzzle that laid before him. He had spent hours already trying to parse out the basics of the complex machinery, his only guide being a manual written in an unknown language.

His feet, now free of glass after a long painful night of picking shards screamed with each of his anxious steps. Lance tried his best to ignore it, focusing on the task at hand.

"I just need to think, hole went through the engine, they just burned through so what I need to do is move parts that look right to replace the melted ones."

Lance got to work, trying his best to remove the damaged pieces of the engine without the use of tools. The work was arduous and painful, the cramped engine room slowly getting hotter as the day carried on.

The heat grew too oppressive for the man to deal with, and frustration pushed him to stay in the hot chamber. This quandary only ended with the rumbling of his stomach.

"I'll get some food and jump back into it," Lance said to himself, knowing full well he probably would not try again for days. He dared not even think of the engine as he marched out and grabbed a can of neon yellow corn from the floor.

He paused, corn in hand as he tried to turn on the electric can opener mounted to the side of the kitchenette. He waited for some sort of indicator it was working, only to be greeted by nothing. Lance then began to flick the power on at increasing speeds, frustration and hunger forced him to give up.

Lance walked out of his shuttle, with a casual toss he let loose the can of corn allowing it to fall onto the soft grass below. He then carried his impromptu wrench to the can, swinging it down with primal fury.

The can only suffered a dent for his attempts, this only frustrated the young man more. He then swung his wrench at the can, hoping it would give.

It took ten tortuous minutes to crack open the can, and an unsteady seepage of corn and liquid dribbled out. With nothing to start a fire or to cook it on he returned to his half-destroyed shuttle. He dropped his wrench unceremoniously on the ground, and plopped himself onto the floor; the vibrations causing cans to once more roll about.

"First thing, before the engine, get power going…unless the power is-." Lance's screams of frustration interrupted his thoughts. It was finally settling in he was alone here, and woefully unprepared.

Lance sat staring at the dripping corn, his mind seemed to glaze over. He wondered briefly if he should try to forage before setting his eyes back on the mangled can.

Alone, with nothing but his corn can, he slowly chugged the contents the disgusting feeling of wet cold corn clawing down his throat.

"God, why did I Isekai?"
