Dawn of Mechs

Mechs, a humanoid machine, a metal man. A concept that existed for centuries unfulfilled. The development of technology gradually brought the concept closer to reality. Functionally the needs and niches they could use were already occupied to great effect by simpler machines. Was their really any reason to create such things? Of course their was. Entertainment! Movies games and art kept the idea firmly planted in humanities mind. These mediums gave way to fantastical ideas that would be made into reality. Hoverboards, jetpacks, railguns, inter planetary travel, virtual reality, neural chips, advanced prosthetics and artificial nervous systems.

The human mind is the most powerful computer know to man. A single mind is capable of controlling every aspect of a mech. Balance, movement, navigation, reaction, problem solving, identifying everything in view near instantaneously. A creative mind and suitable technology is all the idea needed to come to life.

The standard shape of a mech corresponds to human anatomy and controls like a human body. Non standard shapes with extra limbs or mounted weapons took time to adapt to. similar to having paralyses and gradually gaining control after hours of therapy. After disconnecting the pilot would have the sense of phantom limbs.

Mechs modeled after animals would leave a pilot stumbling like a newborn after connection and disconnection. Mechs on tracks depending on the control method would leave the lower half of the pilot untouched or out right giving them paralyses all be it temporary.

Understanding how your body works and an imagination can help adjust to new and different limbs.
