It was just a normal day before the explosion, no one knows the cause of this massive explosion but afterwards, beasts appeared. These beasts came from inside portals to other worlds, soon the humans started to gain powers based off of the things they had faced previously. Then they learned that if they went into the portals and defeated the beasts they would get rewards like armor or awakening scrolls. Awakening scrolls do exactly as their name suggests, using one will awaken your affinity, these are extremely useful as not everyone immediately had their affinity awaken naturally.

After the awakening of affinities, people learned that the earliest your affinities could awaken was fifteen, a school was created for these upcoming beast fighters to learn control. It became mandatory for all fifteen year olds to go to said school for three years.
