Chapter 11 - Operation Begone Devil(1)

The unknown person took Reve to a nearby building and gently dropped him to the ground with a slight heave.

The first thing Reve saw was the feminine form of the figure. When his sight became concentrated and focused again, he noticed the piercing red eyes of the young woman.

He groaned as he moved his body amidst the pain and observed the young woman. Suddenly, he found her familiar.

"Gods be damned, Ren, you cut your hair," Reve exploded in a surprised tone.

The young woman hissed, "Is that the first thing you saw to me after everything?"

Reve frowned and immediately took another look at her.

His brows curved as he smiled. "You are alive! But shouldn't you be dead?"

Half his mind thought he was hallucinating, the other half brought something to his attention.

He didn't actually see Ren die!

He watched her bleed out, but the New Order soldiers captured him before he could check if she actually died. However, with an injury like that, even a miracle couldn't save her.

How was it that she was still alive?

She wasn't a ghost, was she?

Reve looked her down from head to toe. She appeared normal… human, except if he considered her surprising red eyes as abnormal.

Ren joked with a frightening expression. "Oh god, now you are making me feel embarrassed. Stop looking like that, ok? I will tell you everything."

She revealed a bag on her shoulder and brought out a green vial that looked identical to the health vials the soldiers were equipped with.

Reve took the vial and gulped it wholeheartedly. Then, Ren told him everything.

She said that she woke up in a mass dump site a few days ago. Her injuries were still fresh and opened, but she guessed the health vials might have just kept her alive, giving her enough time to patch herself.

"After that, I went looking for you. When I realized you must have been captured, I waited for the right time to bust you out. Who knew you would actually escape yourself and encounter that fucking monster?"

Reve sighed. "I don't even know how that happened."

"Anyway, now that you are here and free from the monster, we don't have much time left. I don't wanna be caught up in the chaos when more soldiers come pouring in."

Reve crawled to the wall, leaning on it in a sitting position.

He released a frustrated sigh as he looked at Ren. "About that, Ravriel isn't dead yet."

Ren frowned. "What do you mean? I collapsed a huge building on his ass. I don't think any monster survives that."

Reve explained, "Ravriel is a titan. What you did to it merely brought us a few minu-"

A vengeful roar echoed throughout the surroundings. Reve tensed instantly as he realized Ravriel was back.

He tried standing, only to fall back to the ground. The only good news about his situation was that his bleeding has stopped.

"What the hell is that?"

Reve shook his head. "I told you. Ravriel is a titan… like me. If that was all it took to kill him, believe me, I would have done that long ago."

"Well, aren't you a titan? Why can't you kill him?" Ren asked.

He shook his head once more.

It didn't work that way. Reve was what they called a new-generation titan, possibly the only one of the current era.

A few years ago, his physiology had reached its young adulthood. Since then, for unknown reasons, his growth stunted. He didn't pay much attention to it since he viewed it as a positive turn of events. There was a detrimental aspect to his race, something he sealed with magic many years ago.

But even if he had matured as a titan, it wouldn't matter much. Ravriel was years ahead of him. He was like a mouse caught in the paws of a cat.

Reve looked past Ren, gazing into the distance.

He calmly mentioned, "Ren, you have to go. Ravriel is coming. If you leave now, you might survive. However, if you stay…"

Ravriel wouldn't mind killing one more human!

Suddenly, both of them heard the breathing of someone else in the building. They sharply glanced at the far corner of the room with wary looks.

Ren hoisted an energy gun at the person and growled, "Who the fuck are you?"

The person grinned, "Hey chill, I'm a good guy. I go by Calen, Reve's best friend. Reve, tell her!"

Ren didn't drop her gun. Instead, she glanced at Reve with a question on her face.

"He is an acquaintance… of sorts." He glared at Calen, "I thought you left."

Calen exclaimed, "And miss all this fun? No way. It is not every day you get to kill a titan. Maybe one day I might actually kill you, too."

Ren raised her gun instantly.

Calen quickly explained, "It's a joke. A joke. Wow, Reve, where did you get this crazy lady from?"

Reve ignored him and asked, "We will not be killing Ravriel. We will be sending him back. Also, if you didn't leave, where have you been then?"

"I got lost."

"..."

Calen continued. "And I might have a way to expel him. You see, I am really helpful, aren't you?"

Before he could speak more, Ravriel's roar became louder, a sign that he was getting close.

Ren frowned and made a sudden decision.

She turned to Calen and asked with a rare serious expression, "Are you sure you have a way to kill it?"

"Well, it's not 100% and I might need Reve's help along the way."

Ren closed her eyes and considered her options. When she opened them back, a fierce determination blared in her red eyes.

She took out a glass cylinder containing a yellow liquid and gave it to Reve. "It's a prima. I took advantage of the chaos and stole it a few minutes ago, along with a few other things, hehe. Funny enough, when I drank it, there wasn't an intense reaction, but I guess it worked since I am miles stronger than my previous self."

Reve grabbed the prima but didn't drink it. He gave Ren an inquisitive look. There was something weird about the way she spoke.

"I will keep the mon–Ravriel occupied."

Reve sharply gaped.

"What did you expect? Someone gotta do it, and it's not you. And I don't suppose Calen would like to join me?"

Calen smiled. "Yep, not me. I don't know how to fight and I'm really slow. I'm more of a cheerleader. Don't worry, I will be rooting for your bleak survival."

Reve glared at him. "Shut up!"

"It's okay. We need him to go over the plans with you while you heal anyway."

Reve was not comfortable with this idea. He always operated as a cold loner, never going out of his way to help someone without a goal or benefit.

Yet, here was Ren blindly putting herself on the line for him.

Calen was different. He had vile thoughts behind every action. It was easier like that for Reve.

Ren smiled as she walked out. "It's really no biggie. You are my first friend. The only one who helped me when my life shattered. I owe you this at least."
