Chapter 20

We sat down in one of the benches as the group handed the meat over to the chefs.

"You should change your clothes. Ezra, Niko, and Leo, you should hide your hair color. Most of the people here have never seen any other color than our own. It might be a bit of a surprise to them. You guys can come over to our house and change there." Pinky (Osiris) said and handed us some clothes.

We headed to the house which was right next to the common building.

"I think this belongs to you" Ezra said as he handed me a simple white dress.

I pushed it back to him as I shook my head no.

"I am pretty sure it is" he insisted

I ignored him as I walked into an empty room.

"Hey! Come back! Give me back my clothes!" Ezra yelled

Ignore. Ignore.

I laid my clothes on the bed and took off the unnecessarily uncomfortable dress I had on. I slipped into the slim fitting pants and tightened the strings on it. Then, I put the loose fitting shirt on. Comfort over style. That's my motto. Whatever means necessary. Sorry Ezra.

I walked back out to see an angry Ezra waiting for me outside the door. I gently smiled and walked back to the common building.

The others, except Ezra, were waiting on the benches. I sat next to Leah.

"So what's the plan?" She whispered

"The plan is to wait here until HE comes." Leo said as he pulled out a small disk "This will turn green when he arrives and it's safe for us to meet. Until then, I guess we should just blend in."

Xavier leaned back and looked towards the door. He bursted out laughing.

"What the heck are you wearing?!" He yelled

Ezra, who just walked in, was wearing the white dress that was meant for me. To be honest, I'm pretty sure he's rocking it better than I could have.

He flipped Xavier off and without a word, sat down.

Quillon came over and froze when he saw Ezra.

"Oh! Sorry. I didn't know you wanted to wear that instead. I'll remember next time" he said

Ezra gave me a dark look "I don't usually wear this. SHE took my clothes" he said as and pointed towards me.

He looked between us "Well just so you know, neither of you looks bad. Do you want me to give you a change of clothes?"

Ezra waved him off "It took way too long for me to put this on. It'll just be a waste of time"

I think someone likes the dress.

"Usually?" Xavier asked an gave him a side eye. Ezra glared at him and looked held his fist up.

Quillon handed Ezra, Leo, and me some scarfes.

"For your hair. You should put them on now since people are starting to come in."

We put them on. When we finished, the room was half filled with elves.

"There's so many. They made it seem like there weren't" Leo said as he looked around

"Yeah. Are we sure they have enough food for everyone?" Leah asked

The chefs came out but instead of the uniforms they had on, they had on normal clothes. When they sat down, a group came out from the kitchen with their hands full of plates. They placed them on every table then sat down. Other people came out with plates and utensils and passed them out. After they sat down, everyone dug into the food.

Why did we even change our clothes and hide our hair? They were so focused on their food so no one is paying us any attention.

"You guys better hurry before it's all gone!" Lana yelled from across the table

We snapped out of our confused daze. I reached for the plate in front of me to get whatever was in it. Before grabbing the yellow bread inside, someone swiped it from me. I looked next to me, where the hand came from. An elderly woman was eating it while staring at me. A good person would let her have it. Screw that. Finders keepers, stealers shall pay!

I grabbed the bread and yanked it from her hands.

Little granny did not come to play. She grabbed the bread and pulled. We played tug a war with the bread before she let go. I fell backwards into Leah.

"Oof! What the heck are you doing?! Grab the food! It's almost gone!" She yelled

Right!

I looked around the table but the plates were empty. I looked at the other tables and they had some leftovers. I ran around the room, grabbing whatever I could. In the end, I managed to grab a stale potato (how potatoes can become stale, I don't know), lettuce, and...that's it.

I went back to my seat with only the lettuce. I ate the potato on the way back.

"Did you guys get something to eat?" Ezra asked

"Kinda. Some sliced of whatever fruit I just ate and a piece of bread" Xavier said

"That's way more than me" Leo said

"Same here" Leah said "Although, I think Niko had it worse that any of us"

"What happened? I wasn't paying attention since I was fighting for food" Leo said gloomy

She started giggling "She ran around the house to grab the leftovers."

"What did you get?" Xavier said "Fruit? Meat?"

I opened my hands and showed the crumpled dryed up leaves from the salad.

No one said anything.

"Maybe next time, we'll get lucky." Leo said

"That's not even the worst of it. She had to wrestle granny for bread!" Leah continue as she full bellied laughed

As they kept talking, my stomach grumbled. I decided to walk outside. I looked around to be sure that no one was around. I kneeled down and felt the soil. It was dry and sandy.

I looked up websites for how to make rich soil and the components. After adding nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and much more to the soil, I extracted water from the air and gently added it into the now rich soil. I pulled out a seed from my pocket from the fruit I found in one of the plates and buried it into the soil.

I placed my hand on top of the seed and forced it to grow using the soil. It eventually grew into a large tree.

Whoops. I didn't mean to do that.

The tree had tons of fruits so I wasn't that upset about it.

"What have you done?!" Ezra yelled from the house

I looked back and saw everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, at the doorway.

BONK!

A ball of fruit fell on top of my head. I'm in trouble aren't I?
