"Pull over. I'm driving." I say to Alex. I'm sitting in the passenger of his car, about to throw up. It's like I'm riding with one of my brothers when they were first learning how to drive.
"And why on earth would I let you drive my car?" He gives me a quick pointed glare.
"Because you're a terrible driver." I say bluntly.
"Didn't you get your license like 3 days ago? I've had mine since November. Because that was my birthday. And like most people, I got mine on my actual birthday. Why did you wait so long?"
"I didn't want to drive yet. I didn't feel ready and I most certainly didn't want to put myself and the people around me at risk because I wasn't ready yet. So I just chose to wait." I say like its obvious.
"So you could have gotten your license when exactly?" He stops at a red light on the way to his house.
"Well, my birthday is in January but I waited a while before I got my permit in May. I don't know why I waited for a while, but I did." He nods.
"I had to take a short test when I moved here. I probably drive weird to you because I'm so used to the other side of the road. This is very different from what we did back home." He pulls onto a side road that is covered in trees.
"I bet." I respond. We ride for another minute or so and the trees start clearing and a massive circle drive appears in front of a magnificent house. "Woah."
A small smile sprouts from his mouth as he pulls in front of the front door. He gets out of the car and comes around to open my door considering I can't move from all the gaping happening in my face.
"Get out of the car you freak. You can make weird faces and walk at the same time." He pulls me out of his car by my arm and drags me after him.
"Wait. I need to grab my backpack." I head back and grab my bag from the backseat and run back to follow him.
He opens the huge oak door that leads to a grand foyer with a staircase straight out of a fairytale. There is a table in the center and a hall stretching underneath where the 2 sides of the stairs meet. He sets down his keys on the table and walks down the hall. I should probably follow him.
"Mum? Are you home?" He yells, leading me through what I assume to be a formal living room.
"In the kitchen dear." Her accent is much thicker than Alex's, it sounds different in a way.
We head towards the kitchen and I see a short woman standing in front of a stove, cooking away. She has her back towards us but I can still make out significant details about her. She has shoulder length, dark brown hair, and she is a toothpick.
"Alex can you get me a-" She turns around and sees me, "Well hello. And who might you be?"
"Lily." I smile slightly and I reach out to shake her hand. She waves it away and brings me in for a hug.
"It's nice to meet you Lily. It'd be even nicer if someone had told me that he was bringing over a guest." She gives Alex a pointed look that he actually shrinks away from. "Oh, I'm Victoria."
"It's nice to meet you as well." I smile lightly.
"Well now that that's over with, me and Lily are going to work on our project now. We'll be back down for dinner." He starts to drag me from the room and towards the stairs. Oh boy.
