Clean getaways are harder then you think

Chai Ying remained silent as he thought it through. When a thought ran across his mind his eyes sharpened. The realization shocked him a bit. He looked at Bai Mei Li and wondered if she had the same suspicions that he did. He wasn't sure because although she'd been here under a month the memories she'd inherited might have given her information that she otherwise might not of been privy to.

Meanwhile It only took Xiao Jun a few minutes to pick up and put away all his toys. Once he was finished he immediately ran back to Bai Mei Li and demanded to be picked up. Of course Bai Mei Li obliged him and picked him up, pretending not to notice the provocative look he gave to Chai Ying.

Chai Ying could only give a helpless sigh. He wasn't willing to fight with a child. Besides that what he was more concerned with was that the boy had come back out after 'packing his things' with nothing in his little hands. Of course Chai Ying understood what that meant. The child had a storage ring and was very accustomed to using it. This further cemented his idea.

"Elder sister where are we going?" Xiao Jun asked with his arms wrapped around Bai Mei Li's neck and asked excitedly.

Bai Mei Li Smiled happily."We are going to this big brothers place for a little while." She didn't say to stay because she couldn't guarantee that they would accept Xiao Jun and she didn't want to have to explain why they couldn't stay if they were asked to leave later.

"Is it fun?" As a four year old that was always the most important thing to him.

"Mmhmm. It's very different from what you're used to. I think you'll like it a lot." She said as she kissed his chubby cheek. She had zero resistance to those cheeks that felt soft like tofu. She then turned to look at Chai Ying. "We are ready to go now."

"Alright. Here you go." He handed her a piece of cloth.

She took it with a sigh. She'd actually forgotten about this. Bai Mei Li had never had her guard up against the little bun. He was just a child so there was never a need. She'd agreed to blindfold Xiao Jun because she respected their need for security.

She put Xiao Jun down and placed the cloth around his eyes then picked him back up.

"It's a surprise so Jun'er must be good and keep this cloth on okay?" She explained gently.

Xiao Jun wasn't suspicious because he fully trusted his elder sister. Besides he liked surprises so he decided to be obedient.

"Okay Elder sister Xiao Jun will be good. Quickly take Xiao Jun to the surprise!" He said bouncing in her arms showing that he was ready to go.

She nodded to Chai Ying and they sped off in the direction of the sanctuary.

"Chai Ying." Bai Mei Li said shortly after they'd started off.

"Hmm?" He responded without looking at her. He was focusing on the surroundings. He'd been a solider for the greater part of the past life. Some habits die hard. Even though he could spread his Qi to survey his surroundings he found that he still paid attention the way he did when he was a scout in the army.

"How many others like us are in the Sanctuary?"

"Curious?" He said with a chuckle. "There are a specific number of people that you will discover when we get there." He said in a obvious teasing tone.

"You… Tell me quickly." She was extremely unsatisfied with this answer. She really wanted to know how many more people like her were in there. It would be great if there were a lot. That would mean she'd have a lot of like minded people to converse with. Even though Bai Mei Li was a psychiatrist and her job was to listen she was actually quite talkative. She'd had to train herself quite a bit to not interrupt people while they where talking. She was inquisitive and talkative by nature and every now and then this quality would show itself.

"Well… I really shouldn't but… Nope I won't." He laughed in an unrestrained manner.

"… well… Don't you want to know who got your position in the end?" She said slyly glancing at him with a mischievous grin.

He hesitated for a moment before looking at her. When he saw that smile he immediately felt uneasy.

"What is this?"

"This?" She said still smiling. "Clearly this is what they call emotional blackmail. You had a wife and a kid brother… I know you prefer to let the past stay the past but wouldn't you like to know what happened?" Her grin deepened. She wasn't a cruel person. If they'd had bad endings she wouldn't of mentioned them at all. But she felt that knowing their endings would actually give him some piece of mind so she wanted to share this information. No matter how resolute he might be there was no way he didn't care about the fates of those he loves. He was just afraid of learning their fates had been bad.

Looking at her he sighed in defeat. So long as it wasn't mentioned he could pretend that he was indifferent to it all. But once she'd brought it up and clearly had the information how could he possibly remain unmoved?

"Okay you win. So far fifty people from our world have been found. What happened to my family?"

Bai Mei Li laughed happily. The little blindfolded bun looked up. "Elder sister did we make it there yet?" He couldn't be sure why she was laughing because they'd been speaking in a language he'd never heard before.

"Not yet… don't worry it won't be much longer." She spoke in the language of the Great Yan continent.

"Your wife was devastated after your death, but she was soon distracted with her pregnancy with your son. She named him Chai Ying Ru. He grew up splendidly. He became the first Chief of the ministry of science and technology that was created in 1998. He then later created a foundation that targets student in the more rural areas and grants scholarships to the brightest of them to give them a chance to change their fates. He dedicated this foundation to you. Your wife raised you a very good son. She never remarried. She passed away in 2007 at the age of 85. Your brother Chai Shen Yi remained in the military as a military doctor. He was greatly appreciated by them and no harm befell him after your death. It's said he had a close relationship with his nephew your son and helped him to establish the foundation that was dedicated to you. He died in 2017 at the age of 82. He went peacefully. Your son should be around 47 now. He was still alive when I died. As for your post. It was left empty for nearly two decades in your honor. I don't remember who it was that eventually took the seat."

Chai Ying Listened but was unable to say a single thing. His beloved wife had been pregnant... He'd left her to raise their child on her own. Had the money he'd left and his pension been enough? His son had turned out to be such a great person, he was proud. His eyes suddenly stung. He was extremely happy that his family been just fine without him. Nothing ill had befallen them because him. His enemies had been satisfied with his death and had left his loved ones alone. He honestly couldn't of asked for more.

"Thanks, I'm really glad to know all that. Thanks.." He said softly.

Bai Mei Li smiled. She was happy that she could removed some of his worries. She truly wished that there was someone that could do the same for her. Time seemed to work differently when it came to dying on earth and coming. Perhaps there was someone that came from 2040 that could tell her wanted happened?

She sighed immediately dropping that idea.

She only knew what happened to Chai Ying because he'd been such a important person in the country. He'd actually when in the history books. She was great at what she did but how could she possibly make it into the history books. China still had such a huge stigma against psychology. They still believed strongly that family matter should remain private. They believed that airing dirty laundry was a shameful thing.

"I'm just happy that I paid attention in history and currant affairs. You should be really proud." She said while trying to get her mind away such sad thoughts."

"Yeah me t…" Chai Ying suddenly stopped running and motioned for her be silent.

Bai Mei Li reacted instantly by ceasing all movement and then placed a hand over Xiao Jun mouth. She knew he would immediately ask if they'd arrived.

"Shhh be a good boy and don't make a sound okay?" She whispered into his ear and then removed her hand from his mouth when he nodded.

She looked at Chai Ying for answers, but he wasn't looking at her. Instead he was staring straight ahead. A serious expression on his face.

She looked in the direction he was looking at only to see something that chilled her blood.

Looking straight at her was an enormous Wyvern. She hadn't felt it at all but it's attention was locked on her. It didn't even spare Chai Ying a glance. The pure rage and killing intent that was now oozing out of it now that they'd locked eyes was enough to make her shiver.

She instinctively wanted to take a step back but she stopped herself. She didn't want to do anything that might cause it to attack.

"Chai Ying…" She said uneasily as she looked at him

"Don't worry, I'll keep the two of you safe." His voice had a tinge of irritation. How dare this beast him like this. He hadn't thought he'd really encounter a level ten beast but that was just fine with him. He hadn't had a chance to stretch for a long while now.
