Chapter 57

He would have been happy to just kiss her for the rest of the morning, but a pointed cough made them both lift their heads. Two older women were looking at them with a clear mixture of disapproval and impatience and Jesse realized they were blocking the door.

“Oh. Sorry about that,” Jesse said, pulling Emma to the side.

“Very sorry,” Emma added, glancing over her shoulder.

Jesse felt Emma’s walls go down just a split second before a wave of warm contentment washed through him. The frowns on the women’s faces almost immediately transformed into smiles. Emma beamed at them, and Jesse couldn’t help but grin as they practically floated into the coffee shop.

“What did you do that for?”

“I thought they could use a bit of happiness this morning.”

“You hit them with enough to last the rest of the day.”

Emma shrugged. “So I thought they could use a bit of happiness for the whole day. Now are you going to let me go? I have to get to work. And so do you. Remember?”
