Chapter 8: hungover

I woke up to the sound of kitchen cutleries clattering together and the sweet smell of bacon. With furrowed brows, my eyes instantly flickered around the room.

Peach.

Nothing in my apartment was peach. Eric and I had more of a bland disposition to colour and decoration.

I blinked.

Last night, I was dragged out of the club by someone and-.

Jenna.

"Shit."

Images of Alison in grey hair, a blonde bartender and Jenna's bodyguard friend flashed through my head followed by pictures of Armando and a swirl of shots.

Shit.

How much did I drink last night? And why wasn't I having a killer hangover like I usually did?

With my hand in my hair, I motioned to sit up and just like an explosion, the killer headache descended on me. My palm instantly connected with my fore head.

There it was.

The hangover feeling that was worse than anything in the world. Not because of the pain and discomfort, no, but because of the fact that you caused it with your own hands.

Groaning out loud, I shifted to the edge of the bed and placed my feet on the ground. I felt like crap. Now I remember why I stopped drinking.

One glance at the bedside table and all of the pain and stress vanished for a second. Smiling, I reached for the two neatly arranged tablets of painkillers on it. My eyes and hand then went for the tumbler. I blinked when I felt how light it was.

Oh come the fuck on!

Jenna could be the most considerate and inconsiderate person at the exact same time. What stopped her from just filling the glass with water?

I struggled out of the bed and trudged towards the kitchen. My stomach hadn't settled and my eyes were still blurry from last night.

Jenna looked up from her chopping board. "Good day."

I murmured something similar as I made myself comfortable on one of her kitchen stools.

She smirked at the two white tablets on my palm.

"Why haven't you taken the painkillers yet?"

My eyes narrowed as my jaw tightened. "Well, maybe because someone didn't get me water!" I instantly cringed at the pitch of my voice and my eyes fell shut. Damn hangover. I regretted last night.

Jenna arched a brow. "Well, someone's in a mood."

I glared at her from under my lashes.

She laughed and opened the fridge. She placed a bottle of water in front of me. "Drink this."

I opened it and gulped it down. Instantly feeling refreshed, I threw the two tablets into my mouth.

"Feeling better?" she asked.

"Its not magic so, no," I deadpanned. I had learnt my lesson not to yell.

She smirked and continued about her business. It was then I realized she was cooking.

"What are you cooking?" I asked as I placed the bottle on the counter.

"Lunch."

"Lunch?" I furrowed my brows.

She pointed to the clock. "Lunch."

After staring at the clock, my eyes went back to her. "Did you just wake?"

"Been up since 8," She replied. " Salty or spicy?"

"Did you have breakfast?.....Spicy."

"Chocolate bread and brewed tea."

I hummed and reached out for some freshly fried bacon.

Jenna swatted my arm. "Don't you dare!"

I glared at her and massaged my temple. "Keep it down. I still have a fucking hangover."

Jenna gave me a pointed look before continuing with her cooking.

I reached for the same piece of bacon when she wasn't looking. "What happened last night? I can't remember a single thing after Armando left."

The painkillers had already kicked in. Jenna always had the best hangover pills because she was used to going to clubs and getting butt drunk.

"Everything that could possibly happen, happened," she winked. "Do you want some hangover tea?"

"Elaborate.... Yes please."

I shoved the bacon into my mouth and she gave me a death glare. I returned an innocent smile.

"Hmm." I licked my fingers. "This tastes amazing."

She smiled. "Well, to cut the long story short, you got into a fight with the bartender and caused a huge scene."

I took the mug with steaming hot tea from Jenna with wide eyes. "What? I don't understand. Where the heck were you?"

She gave me a look. "I went to go use the restroom. Who knew how much havoc and destruction you could cause in just five minutes."

I took a large gulp of the tea and almost gagged. Well, if I had to drink shit just to get rid of this headache, I'd take it in gulps.

I looked into the mug to make sure I wasn't actually drinking shit. "Was it that bad?"

"Yeah," she nodded and smiled. "The whole club was staring."

I let out several laughs as Jenna went on in gruesome details about everything that happened. I guess I was too drunk to realize that the sky turned pink and it rained unicorns.

"Why don't you go take a shower so you can feel refreshed?"

I nodded.

"And also uh- I answered your e-mail for you."

My eyes snapped to hers immediately.

"The mail from Erica Ramirez, I answered that one."

My eyes turned harder and I immediately got on my feet. "Fuck, Jenna. That was personal."

I switched my laptop on and frantically searched for the mail.

Hey Erica, it's Roxy. Of course I'll like to hear what you have to say about my last published story. Just e-mail me the place and time and

I'll be there.

Roxy.

My eyes slowly met Jenna's with clenched teeth. "At least you could have tried to be formal and professional."

She turned to me from the laptop nonchalantly. "That was the best reply I could think of then."

"Then you shouldn't have answered it at that moment, Jesus, Jenna."

"Calm down, will you? You'll still have to meet up with her whether you like it or not. I just helped you out."

I scoffed and switched off my laptop.

Jenna looked at me with a glint in her eyes. "Don't tell me you're mad at me for trying to help."

I placed my laptop in my overnight bag and got up from the couch.

Jenna immediately pounced on me.

With wide eyes, I fell to the ground. "Jenna ...get off.... Stop it!"

She tickled even harder.

"Are you still mad at me now?" she asked, tickling me so hard I could die.

"No no .....no no ....no. I'm not ma-addd!"

"Good."

With a swift motion, Jenna was off me and I lay on the floor, completely out of breath.

"Oops. I forgot the sauce on the cooker."

After a few moments of catching my breath, I sneaked in and quietly opened up the fridge. I took the coldest bottle of water I could find and turned it over on Jenna's head.

Jenna screamed, dripping with ice cold water. "ROXY! What the fuck?!"

I sprinted to the bathroom and made sure to lock the door. My smile could've tore my face into two. Well, they did say Revenge is a dish best served cold, right?

Giggling to myself and ignoring all of the profanities I could hear from out the door, I blocked the bathtub hole and filled it with water. I searched Jenna's cabinet and found her fragrances and special oils. I poured them into the bathtub and the lovely smell instantly filled the air.

I got out of my pyjamas and slipped into the bath tub, letting the sweet smelling water glide through my body surface. I washed my body first before enjoying myself in the bath.

Several minutes later, I got out of the bathroom smelling like an angel. With a towel wrapped around my chest, I strolled out of the room. My eyes went round for Jenna until I spotted her lying lazily on the couch. She was on a phone call.

After getting dressed, I went back to the living room. Jenna was still on the phone call.

"Yes, of course."

There was a pause.

"I know."

There was another pause, accompanied with her running her fingers through her hair.

"I want to. I really want to but it's just Roxy. She's not gonna take it well and-." Her eyes unconsciously went to her room's direction and they landed on me. She pressed her lips into a tight line and her eyes lingered on mine for a few seconds. "I'll call you back, Ed."

I turned away.

"Roxy, I can-."

"No."
