4 Ch 4 Hunting & Training

Chapter 4

It's now 1408, a couple of months after my birthday and I'm walking through the forest looking for prey.

About 2 years ago I was allowed to enter the local classes early by impressing my parents and the teacher with my intelligence, because of this my parents have allowed me more freedom including the chance to explore the nearby forests.

It was there that I found my biggest treasure, an old dagger which I used to step up my marksmanship game.

By using it to hunt animals, I currently have many dead rabbits and birds in my inventory.

But more worthwhile than the corpses was the Exp I gained hunting them which was about 1-5 Exp depending on the size it took me several months to gain one level which was 100 Exp.

It was then that I made a horrifying discovery, my gamer system is far weaker than I previously thought.

Stat Points 1

Just 1 spendable stat point. I will not be becoming a god using this system like I previously hoped, what's more, is I have gained 100 Exp since leveling up.

Meaning the Exp requirements are 5 times more than before.

If I want to take a stat from athlete level at 15 points to peak human potential level at 25 I need to level up 10 times.

In other words, I need to min-max the shit out of this and can't just keep all my stats even like so many gamer fics do.

In terms of my stat increases I've finally been able to train up some physical stats mostly my AGI, END, and PER mostly just from hunting and running around the forest.

Not to mention my INT and WIS which are also increasing, my memory is getting clearer and clearer and making my skill gain faster.

I've decided that I'm going to spend my stat points mostly on WIS and AGI. AGI because I personally believe dodging an attack is way better than blocking, and running away to fight another day is not cowardly but smart.

Next, WIS is good for speeding up skill gain which is the only thing keeping me from true despair. But in both cases, I want to wait until I'm around 20 before bumping them up.

My skill increase has been quite good. I've found out that being taught skills by a teacher increases the level gain speed which is why my Tea making and Herbology skills have increased faster than others.

But knowing next to nothing about a skill decreases leveling speed.

An example being my Dagger arts skill and my Meditation skill have been very slow to level probably because I don't really know much about them.

I asked about my parents' old lives, my father used to be a hunter and that my mother is a skilled singer and both are content with their life.

I asked my father to teach me some tracking skills which I used to find rabbits easier.

As I'm lost in thought I catch some movement out of the corner of my eye, quickly I summon my dagger to my hand and throw it to my right.

I hear a heavy thud and see another dead rabbit to add to my collection.

Today I'm going to town to see if I can find someone to buy 2 of my rabbits.

I summon 2 rabbits and place them in a burlap sack I brought for the occasion and start heading back to town.

Half an hour later I could see the town in the distance, once again I got lost in thought.

I won't sell the rabbits at the market and will instead sell it to old man Ling, he often comes by the Teahouse and I was told he used to be a monk and is skilled in Martial Arts.

I hope I can impress him and get him to teach me his skills.

Learning how to fight is one of my main goals to achieve before leaving on my journey.

I get to old man Ling's home on the outskirts of the city.

It's small in comparison to our house but has many beautiful flowers in the garden, That's where old man Ling sat meditating I assume, as I approach seems to notice me.

"Little Yang have you come to appreciate the greenery" said Ling

"No I came to see if you would be interested in buying some fresh rabbits, I'll give you a good price" I said taking the rabbits out of the sack

"Hmm the wounds on these rabbits don't look like arrows, how did you get them" He said taking a close look

"I hunted them myself, I'm quite good with a knife" I said twirling the knife around in my hand

"Impressive for your age but why haven't you skinned them your father was a hunter was he not"

"Well to be honest my parents are very overprotective. I've been practicing hunting with a dagger I found in the woods. I've been training myself how to hunt and fight" When I said this his eyes widened

"Hmm, little Yang may not be so little after all, how about a bet, I'll buy these rabbits off you if you can hit me but if you fail I get them for free" He said grinning. I know I don't stand a chance against him but I just need to impress him, he can have the free rabbits.

"Old man Ling I couldn't possibly attack someone of your age" Just as I finished the last word I jumped to punch him. But he grabbed my arm and tripped me up as he pulled me forward.

"Hahaha you actually tricked me kid but you're still too slow so ill take those rabbits, however, you've impressed me take out that dagger and let me show you how to skin them properly" He said literally looking down on me

I was hoping for martial arts lessons but this is useful too.

He then proceeded to show me the proper way to skin the rabbits and afterward, he also demonstrated how to cook rabbit stew and we ate it together talking about my dream to travel the world as a hero and his past as a monk.

Nothing too interesting and he didn't go into detail about his martial arts training, as I left I asked.

"Old man Ling is it ok if I bring more rabbits here to practice skinning I think it could be important in my future"

"Of course, little Yang thinking about the future is always important" he said with a sly smile

"Oh and take this it might help with hunting" he gave me 2 more daggers that are sharper than my current one. After that, I left and headed home.

3 days later I returned with 3 rabbits and he skinned 1 in front of me and I practiced with the other 2 after badly skinning the first.

Ding Skinning LVL 1

A good skill to have this way I can make money on skins while storing the meat in my inventory for emergencies.

Speaking of my inventory I have been carving crude wooden cups for months now and secretly brewing and storing tea in my inventory.

This way I'm always ready to serve tea no matter the time or place. This way I can truly make Uncle Iroh proud.

After a few months of this and me bringing more rabbits so much, I leveled up again.

Through selling the skins I managed to earn some money that I spent on throwing knives and a stack of paper to take down notes.

And finally just today Old man Ling finally said

"Little Yang if you plan to travel you need to be able to defend yourself without stabbing everybody, how would you like to learn Shaolin Kung Fu"
