Loves Journey Chapter 2

Elizabeth and Joseph headed out of the meadow observing the scenery around them while they walked hand in hand following the small stream, they turned around upon hearing what sounded like a beautiful chiming of a bell. from behind a tree walked a beautiful unicorn looking left and right before looking behind her and whickering, a foal came out from behind the tree prancing to its mother and nuzzling her side the unicorns were beautiful thier silver coats glimmering in the moonlight the adult unicorn spotted the two humans and uttered a warning the couple quickened thier pace not wanting any trouble knowing how strong a unicorn could be.

once they were out of the forest and on the dirt road they headed north Joseph knew this location pretty well having traveled these roads as a teen a carriage stopped and the door opened a rich looking man wearing a suit looked at the pair, walking the road this time of night they must be a couple that ran from thier parents because one didn't approve "would you kids like a ride?" Joseph inwardly glared at the word 'kid' of course in his eyes they were kids he was eightteen and Elizabeth was seventeen but this man with his grey sticklike mustache and greying black hair that was combed back and his obvious high status demeanor looked to be at least fifty, Joseph bowed his head to the man showing respect to his status "no thank you sir we prefer to walk but thank you kindly for the offer" but the man was persistent "are you sure? the next town isn't for miles and your young legs will tire soon" Joseph shook his head "so be it good luck kids like you will be prey to witches or werewolves lets hope they prefer humans with more meat" with that the man closed the carriage door and ordered his coachman to move, as soon as the carriage was out of sight Elizabeth spoke up "why wouldn't you accept his offer? I wouldve preferred a carriage ride over walking." "did you not notice? that man was a vampire, we were fresh blood to him we would have been dead if we had accepted his offer" Elizabeth widened her eyes in shock she had failed to notice that the man was a vampire the world she lived in were home to all kinds of creatures from werewolves, to witches, to vampires, and unicorns her and Joseph were in the second lowest of status mere humans that didnt come from rich families the vampires came from a high status were they looked down on humans as if they were ants in the dirt that they could easily stomp under thier shiny shoes. It disgusted Elizabeth that the world she lived in could be this way but that's the way it's been for centuries. Joseph snapped her from her thoughts by tapping her shoulder and pointing to the edge of the forest there was a adolescent Griffin hunting for its next meal, sniffing around an ugrat hole the little rodent took it's chance to make its escape but to no avail. The griffin caught the small creature in its beak tossing it a few feet in the air before swallowing it in one gulp, Elizabeth cringed upon the sight Joseph looked at her raising an eyebrow "What's wrong? I thought griffins were your favorite creature" "they are but I don't like watching them eat since I once had to eat rodents when I was on my own" his heart ached at the thought of her being on her own if he had known she had to live in those circumstances he wouldve done everything he could to help her he gave her hand a reassuring sqeeze and she looked up at him smiling, finally they saw lights of a town in the distance and they both sighed in relief.
