A Loner Inside The Novel

A boy. Broken after all he has been through. His life has become as miserable as it can ever be. His only wish is to disappear from this world. There is nothing left that can bind him to this world anymore. Not his family, friends or anyone else. Nonetheless, his hollow eyes hold a tiny bit of hope, a little expectancy from this life... Or rather from the death. A new person; A free-spirited person; A loner inside a novel who promises himself not to form any bonds with others. He thought of relationships as nausea, which would eventually restrict his freedom again, crushing the-already-broken state of him completely. At least, that's what he thought... ======================================== Hello everyone! This is my first novel. So, your feedbacks are really precious to me. Theodore Miller (2)

After I returned to my room, I just threw myself into my comfortable bed. There was nothing so unique about the room. A bed, a study desk, a mirror, a bathroom, a wardrobe and, a little kitchen.

If someone looked at me he/she would say I was staring at the ceiling but I was actually examining a blue screen floating in the air.

'Theodore Miller. So that's really my new name, huh?

I wasn't able to look at every detail due to some conditions during my talk with Ember. Now that I have time, it doesn't hurt to learn about myself a little more.

'Hmm... My overall rank is (F-). I guess that's not so hopeless as I initially thought. As far as I remember, the protagonist was about to break through (E+)-rank when the academy opened officially.'

My mana is (G+)-rank. Now that I think about, what am supposed to do to use mana. Even if the rank of mana is low, it confirms that the former owner of this body was in fact able to feel and use the mana even if it was very little. So theoretically, I should also be able to utilize the mana.

According to the novel, the first step to utilize mana is to feel the mana in the air.

To do that your mind must be free of thoughts and only concentrate on mana. This part was a piece of cake for me since I had gone to meditation centers to empty my mind and relax in my past life. Meditating was a way to put my mind at ease. A way to escape from the reality.

I sit on the floor cross-legged and cleared my mind. I inhaled and exhaled in an orderly manner. Slowly but surely, the clouds in my mind dissipated. I eventually found myself in an empty space. This space, unlike the last one where I suffered a lot, was white.

The second step, the mana gathering.

I frowned when I saw thousands of threads glowing in red and yellow colors amidst the white space. They were getting closer to my body at a slow pace. When a thread touched my skin, it got instantly sucked in. With every new sucked threads, I felt an electric current rushing to my heart, but instead of pain, it gave me a refreshing sensation.

I could do this for an entire week. This felt addictive. However, I noticed an instability in the movements of threads, sometimes they moved towards me slower, sometimes faster. After a few trials and errors, I realized the speed of the threads floating towards me increased by 2 to 3 folds during my inhales, while the speed turned back to normal during my exhales.

It first surprised me since I had never read anything about speeding up the mana gathering process while inhaling. There was a high possibility that this was happening due to my breathing technique of my mediation.

Although my mana pool can suck mana threads into my body even if I don't concentrate, concentrating is just to speed up that process. But I am sure there wasn't any way to further improve mana gathering that was mentioned in the novel.

'Not that I am complaining about it but I am not sure whether there has ever been such a way to increase the speed of the mana gathering process.'

Anyway, the third step, refine the mana in your body.

The mana in the atmosphere is like a raw material. To be able to use it, the body automatically refines the raw mana and turns it into the actual mana people can make use of.

The last step is to imagine.

To cast a magic, I need to give a shape and concept to the mana by my will power. But not everyone can use every element. For example, I can use the fire and the lighting elements. Therefore, I can only cast away fire and lighting related spells.

'Let's try this out.'

I imagined that the mana got the same characteristics of flame, and that the heat of that flame got compressed into a small ball. Now I imagined that ball to appear in my palm.

"..."

I blinked a couple of times only to see the empty palm of mine.

'Did I do something wrong?'

I started to swing my arm as if a kid was trying to fix his broken toy using brute force.

"Ugh... Come-"

Suddenly a fireball emerged in my palm. It didn't burn my hand. Unfortunately, because the fireball emerged while I was swinging my arm, as soon as it emerged, it was thrown to the desk.

*Boom*

"Fuck!"

*Cough*

*Cough*

I lifted my head and gazed at the desk which was now broken into pieces. I gulped with a serious look in my face.

"No more playing with fire at home."

I know the last five chapters were only about a single day but I tried to divide the day into different parts. This slow pace will change once I finish laying the foundations of the background world. So bear with it for another 2 (or at most 3) chapters!
