A Good Friend

Vincent's eyes turned bloodshot due anger while Blair hang her head low. Emily scoffed.

"Says the daughter of a home wrecker".

Celestine's expression immediately turned ugly.

"How dare..."

"Is that all you know to say? Gosh! It's boring". Emily sneered.

"You..." Celestine almost fainted due to anger. She was only an illegitimate child yet she had such guts. She was going to make sure Emily paid for this humiliation she had put her through.

Blair tugged Emily's dress and signalled her not to continue. She did not want Emily to get into trouble because of her. She already had too much of her own. It was just a dress, wasn't it? She could pick another one. It was not like that was the only dress available in the mall.

Emily ignored Blair's signal. She would not allow anyone to bully her or anyone dear to her.

"Miss, wrap the dress for us". Emily turned to the attendant and said, totally ignoring the haughty Celestine behind her. The attendant hesitated.

"Why are you hesitating?" Emily's lips curled up into a malicious smile, "Or do you think I'm someone you can afford to offend?"

She shivered involuntarily.

"Right away miss". She answered and speedily wrapped the dress while Celestine was still dumbfounded, lest she made a ruckus when she drew out of reverie. Emily took out her black card and paid for the dress, pulling Blair along with her as she left the mall.

Watching Emily's retreating back, Celestine gritted her teeth in anger as the other missies of much lower status who came shopping with her sucked up to her by dragging Emily's name through the mud.

"Don't get angry about this worthless piece of trash. She's not worth your anger", one said.

"She's just an illegitimate miss. Who does she think she is? She's not worth even a finger of yours".

"Don't get annoyed by this brat. You can probably crush her without having to lift a finger".

Hearing her lackeys badmouth Emily like that, her mood significantly improved.

"Hmph! Who does she think she is? She's just an illegitimate miss I can crush with my little finger". Feeling better, she continued shopping, even generously picking expensive clothing for her lackeys.

...

Outside, Blair stood by Emily, her eyes reddened due to gratitude.

"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Blair said excitedly and pulled Emily into a tight embrace.

"Can. You. Stop. Squeezing. Me?" Emily almost suffocated in that tight embrace.

"Oops! Sorry!" She giggled while releasing her. Emily coughed a few times to catch her breath.

"Anyway, thank you again", said Blair once more. Emily rolled her eyes at her.

"Seriously? Do you have to continue thanking me? That's what friends are supposed to do for each other, right?"

"Not every person can do that for a friend. Thank you", said Vincent. Emily smiled helplessly. Was there really a need for all this?

"If you guys are so bent on showing me gratitude, then why not treat me to a meal?" She said.

"Of course"

"Definitely". Said the two.

"Great! Then let's go to the café over there". Emily said and led them there.

...

"Order whatever you like. It's on me", Vincent said.

"No way! It's on me!", Blair yelled.

"I can't let you pay", Vincent said calmly.

"Why not?! I was the one who was helped, not you", Blair retorted. Emily held her head in frustration. Did these two siblings have to argue at any given time?

"Seriously guys can't you agree on who should pay? Don't worry I'll pay".

"No way!" They both shouted but Emily already called the waitress over.

"Order whatever you like", said Emily.

Blair pouted, "If you continue like this, then we are really going to be indebted to you so much that we can't pay".

Emily smiled and said, "I never asked for payment".

"Still..."

"Let's eat, alright?" Emily said
