Chapter 22: Sentinels of Knowledge

“Please explain to me once again how the book just vanished?” Derek asked still completely astounded that the book both of them had desired greatly was now gone.

“There’s only so many ways to explain what happened; after saying the Drund sorcerer’s name, a portal appeared and the book passed through it.” Alyssa responded as she led the way up to the keystone portal from the village.

“Wasn’t there something you could have done with you know being a sorceress?” Derek pointed out.

“If there was anything she could have done to stop it, I’m sure she would have, and accusing her of being reckless doesn’t help anything.” Markus said grabbing Derek’s shoulder, who regarded him as if he were a pesky gnat.

“It’s not your livelihood that’s on the line.” Derek said, and Markus thought better and removed his hand from Derek’s shoulder.
