Chapter 20: Beyond the Specter
At first everything was dark, but then gradually light appeared and Alyssa looked around and saw nothing. There was no discernable shape to where she was, and no discernable end to it either. It was as if she was floating, but she took a few steps and it was as if she was on solid ground, and above her it was as if there was no ceiling to what was above her or below her.
“Hello,” Alyssa called out. Her words seemed to echo, but nothing replied to her at all. It seemed as if she was alone in this plane of existence. She attempted to open a portal, but the magic didn’t work, which she thought was odd as regardless of a realm or plane a conjured portal should have opened.
