Ellen's POV

I was so happy when I was finally allowed to leave early by that annoying boss of mine, I would have caused him a lot of trouble if he had not agreed.

I'm beginning to think he is a nice person actually despite his wild personal life, well that's just my opinion about him.

"You are late," Skye said to me with a pout.

Late?.

You don't want to know what I had to do to arrive now.

I thought to myself.

"I'm sorry I was delayed" I smiled gently at her and she nodded in understanding.

"Where are you girls heading to?" Her brother came down to the kitchen while we were packing things we would need for our picnic.

"Hi, Henry" I called out to him while quietly picking at the foods Skye was packing when she was looking away.

"Ellen!"

Oops! I have been caught.

"Don't stay out late, it's dangerous out these days" Henry warned before we left.

We drove a short distance to the park in the neighborhood.

It's a walkable distance but because we have extra baggage we could not walk.

I'm currently sitting on the picnic mat with my legs crossed while Skye is rummaging in her bag for God knows what and I suddenly sense a presence.

Where we are is an open space but currently, it is deserted leaving just the two of us as the only people around.

But when I felt a presence it was more like someone was watching us which is unusual because no one was in sight.

"I have something to tell you" Skye has finally stopped what she was doing and is now sitting across from me.

"What is that?" I asked.

I watched silently as she wrung her hands together and avoided my gaze while trying to gather enough courage to say whatever it is that was on her mind.

She does when she is about to say something she is not happy about.

I don't think I'm in the mood for the bad news.

"I am leaving the country" she dropped the bomb-like information on me and it left me utterly surprised but I did not show it.

"Dad wants me to attend college in another country" she continued when I gave no reaction to what she first said.

"I'm happy for you even if I would be lonely while you are gone" the response I gave would have been different if I was paying total attention to her but half of my focus was on a fleeting figure that passed around a corner far from where we are.

I knew we were not alone.

The urge to check who it was almost controlled me.

I tear my gaze away from the spot and turn them to Skye. Now I understand why she has been pushing for us to go on a picnic date together, she's leaving soon I figured out.

"When are you leaving?" I asked, knowing it was the only thing I needed to know now.

We are friends that are quite right but that doesn't mean I would inconvenience her with our relationship.

She would have my full support in whatever she is doing.

"Excuse me for a minute," I said to Skye who was caught off guard while I sprint the distance across the park to where I saw someone.

I rounded the corner of a gazebo searching for whoever was there.

"Are you looking for something Miss?"

I was startled by the sound of someone behind me.

I turn around, assessing the person before me. He was tall and slightly built, and his hair was unusually long. His skin was pale and not sun-kissed like regular guys. Eyes dark like a midnight sky made me take a step backward.

He reminds me of those centuries-old vampires in horror movies.

Except he is very attractive.

"Humm-m nothing, I was just checking the place" one of the things I don't know how to do is cook up a lie to save my ass.

He must know I was lying because of how I stuttered.

Standing in the same space as the man was suffocating for me, his gaze was piercing and that smile of his is making my skin crawl.

"Ellen! Ellen!"

Skye's worried voice reached my ears.

I must have taken too long.

"Excuse me".

I was happy when he moved out of the way for me to leave.

"What took you so long?" A frown was on Skye's face as she looked at me searching for what kept me for that long.

I'm sure she doesn't want to see what kept me for so long.

I shudder in remembrance of the man.

Arran had grown curious about one of the many humans in Dave's mansion. He wondered why Dave was slowly growing fond of her.

Humans are never up to no good so he decided to see what she does when she is not at the house.

Finding her wasn't hard because of the unique scent that followed her around.

He found her in a park and watched her from afar with another human doing their thing.

But to his surprise she sensed him.

His interest in her peaked.

If she can sense his presence it means she is not just an ordinary human.

But what?.

He would have to find out later.

She had surprised him further when she sought him out.

Their exchange had been surprising also.

She just kept staring at him warily, almost like she could see his bloody past.

He is intrigued by this human.

"It's been a long time since I have witnessed such a bright smile on that face of yours," Brody said before passing a glass of Scotch to Arran.

"And it's also been a long time since you've ever offered me a drink, what's the occasion?

Or you've poisoned it?" Arran evaded his question by giving some of his.

He took a sip out of his drink before Brody replied.

"I wish a poison could work on you, I would have got rid of your ass that way" Brody smiled with his eyes while responding.

They are close friends not very close but most of the time they find themselves seeking each other out.

Arran chuckles at what he said while his mind slowly drifts off to the human he had met hours ago.

What was wrong with him?
