“Wow.” Greg looked stunned, thrilled, and anguished all at once. “Thank you,” he said to Eskandar. He looked at Aiden. “Aiden. You can’t…” He shut his mouth, then shook his head and stepped away to lean against the wall next to the door. Aiden couldn’t see him.
Eskandar turned back to Aiden, but he looked confused again. Aiden, why are you in here?Then he saw the black ring on the floor, and his eyes widened. What’s happening?
Aiden tried to take a deep breath, but his heart was racing too hard to let him. All he wanted to do was take Eskandar in his arms, kiss him and let his angel wrap him in his wings. But when Eskandar stepped toward him, Aiden stepped back. His heels were touching the edge of the circle, but he made sure not to cross over the line. He opened his mouth to speak but his throat was too tight. He swallowed and tried again. “I want you to go away. I—I’m banishing you.”
